Peeling Clearcoat

I've noticed that there is a small spot on my hood where the clearcoat is peeling. (About the size of a silver dollar) I was wondering if there is any way to stop this process or if the whole hood would need to be repainted. Thanks!

this is kinda creepy, but I recently posted a thread in the Chevrolet lumina forum that was worded almost identical to yours. "...I just bought a 99LTZ and sure enough: there are three spots on the front bumper where the clearcoat has begun to peel. Two of them are fairly small (half dollar), but the other is huge, like the size of a tennis ball..." "....Is there anything I can do to stop the clearcoat from peeling farther?..." .........just thought that was bizarre. in answer to your specific question: I've been told no: once it begins to peel, there's no stopping it. I've been told that you cannot strip the clearcoat and re-apply. Everyone I've spoken with thinks that any "repairs" you might try will fail. I guess you have to strip it all the way down and repaint it. If you find any good advice on this topic please let me know.

There's no way to stop it from peeling. You could repair the spot like if you were to fix a big dent or something, but your best bet would be to repaint the whole hood, that way you know it won't start doing it somewhere else later on.

that's the pits. I just noticed that not only is the clearcoat on the top of my bumper peeling, the clearcoat is almost gone on the lower part. It looks rough. As bad as I hate to, I may get a bra. AHHHHHHHH!!!...or just repaint it :)
