What is the largest size speaker you have gotten away with in the ext. cab (rear) door on the 2001 silverado (99-02)?
I have some 4" But it seemed a 5.25" could fit. I am also going to dynamat the doors while I am at it.
Let me know what size I can use back there (5x7, 5.25, 4x6) etc
Thanks

I just had my rear door off to upgrade the stock 4x6's to Infinity 2 way 4x6's but I think in the fall i'm going to get some 6"s professionally installed. There is loads of room in there and there is no reason you couldn't cut the plastic a bit and mount some decent size speakers in there. I would almost hesitate to say you could fit a 6x9 or even an 8 inch woofer in there. Just be a matter of mounting is all.
Anyone know how to get the driverside panelling off on a 3 door? Does it require complete removal of the rear Seat, etc...
Cheers

do you think 5x7 would fit easily? I am gonna get those Alpine SPR-57LP. I have a the 6.5" SPR's and they are kickazz. If the 5x7 would fit, I would be in heaven. I am using a 6Channel Alpine 3566 . (4x30 watts + 1x180watts) Its a very modest system for one amp and Its perfect for a 30 something dad to jam to. :)

Yeah I think it would fit for sure.... Here are what your up against. This is what the panel behind my 3 door looks like but, it's essentially the same thing on a 4 door. A 4 door would have been much much quicker do to. My 3rd door was a snap. The two screws in the cup holders then just start prying the panel off. You'll be done in no time.
Here are some pics of what you'll find.

Perhaps one of the Audiophiles in here can answer this question. Has anybody seen somebody put a sub-woofer in the lower half of this trim? IE: Under the drink holder the part that slants down before the lower pocket. I was thinking I could stick an 8 inch on each side or perhaps a ten in just the driverside frame work and mount it to the plastic cause it's pretty rigid. Thoughts????
Enjoy the pics.

Hey Kenwood Guy, can you verify the mounting depth maximum for the rear doors of an 01 silverado ext cab? The speakers I am looking at have a
69.5mm (2.736 inches) mounting depth. They are 5x7.
Can I fit them?
Thanks

Hey Hannibal,
Yes those speakers will fit. If you have to you can always space them a little forward as there is lots of room in the grille as well.

You'd have to cut the frame a bit and drill holes to mount it but nothing a jigsaw couldn't sort out for yah. Or slide in from below and reverse mount with some Nuts and Bolts.... I didn't even know they made a 5x7....Oh well the 4x6's are in now. I'm gonna cut the panels up in the winter and put 6's in I think as well and power them with an external Amp.... Still don't want to sacrifice space under the seats for a subwoofer...
Yet....:grinno:

the only thing that will it in the hole is a 4x6 but it could be cut out to fit something larger in there. i was thinking of putting a 6 1/2 or 5 1/4 in there but never have had the time to mess with it yet.
