Extra Heat

I was driving today in 90 degree weather when I noticed that my legs were getting hot. Hot air was blowing on them from under the dash. The vents were off and I even had the temp knob all the way in the blue. I stuck my hand under there and figured that it was coming from the lower vents. Now, I did notice this in my other Z. Is this normal? Is this just an extra way to alleviate engine heat? I don't think the vent is stuck open because when I used the A/C, no air came out from the bottom. I'm not too worried, just curious.

Due to the fact both your cars act this

way we will assume your diverter valves are OK
When you have the mode slider to ‘OFF’
air still comes thru. Because the AC was off
the heat of the day was warming the innards
rendering hot air. If you find this annoying
move the slider to ‘VENT’

okay the problem with our car...is that the exhaust system looks like a freakin afterthought. its like GM wanted our car to run cutouts..

the exhaust pipe is so close to the body that they actually had to make a dent in the passanger side seat to fit a cat convertor.. i noticed that from the passenger side, the heat is really bad.. (From the exhaust) if you drive for maybe 1-2 hrs, and feel the passanger side seat..its really really hot.

i think thats the heat you're feeling, i also get the heat to the driver side too..thats prolly just straight through the firewall.

btw, this is assuming you were driving for a while before you noticed... it should be cool for the first 30 min..(at least mine is..)

Even tho the selector is on "cold" all that does is close the blend door off from the heater core. However hot anitfreeze which is what provides the heat when the blend door is set to "hot" is still flowing through the heater core.

true, but a little expination can either help understand the issue, or reveal that it may not be the cause after checking it out.

I have noticed that the passenger side does get really hot after a while of driving. I honestly think GM did a crappy job putting these cars together. Some of the shit is tough as hell to get to and work on. Just frustrating.

You might have a binding cable on the blend door if it's really, really bad. But yes, never been in a GM sports car that wasn't roasting your feet off on a hot day.
