Loose windows

I posted this in another forum, but a guy told me to post it in this one...
Here's the original message.
I have a 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS and I have a problem with both my passenger and driver doors. When the windows are down and you close the door, the window rattles a lot. I mean even if your driving down the road with em down you can hear them wiggling in there. Is there any simple way to tighten something to make it stop being soo loose? I'm totally new to cars and I need a non-technical explaination. Any help is appreciated.

There are some things in there you can adjust, but that will just cause other problems with the window not closing properly (I tried it). The right thing to do is take the door apart and see what parts are worn, and replace them. I never got around to doing this in my car, too many bigger problems to deal with :)

yeah i think just about every dsm has this problems, i think 1g's the widows dont close evenly, and 2g's the windows rattles a lot(when it's down).

Yup even the most taken care of DSM's will suffer from this. Not much you can do but replace parts and hope for the best.

i could more then likely point to the parts that are bad in mine because there are 2 scrapes in my tint in the exact same spot on both windows. but ill live with it im to lazy to take off the door panal and replace it lol.

:1: To shitty DSM door handles/windows. The key wont work in the lock on the drivers side of my car so I have to unlock it on the passenger side and unlock the drivers that way. That and my windows dont go up right all the time and occasionally get caught.

After trying to adjust out the rattle, sometimes the widow would go up and go outside the groove it's supposed to fit into. It would go out about an inch, very strange looking. I used to have to stick my arm out the sunroof and push the window inward as it went up, since the door has to be closed (frameless windows).
LMAO, I forgot all about that crap. Memories...

Yea my locks have minds of their own and sometimes the windows do little f**k ups! Good thing I have a girlfriend because if I was on a "date" with a random girl, I be embarrassed at some of the games my locks play.

I tried the fix for the 2g as posted in the article above. Needless to say I broke the platic clip on the inside when I did it. So I went and got the replacement bracket for 10 dollars. Replaced it and no more rattle. It's great. I really suggest just replacing that part. If I could have bent it like it said I would have liked to. It's a pain to get to, take out the front door speaker then you can. I suggest wearing gloves else your going to get cut up.
It's a metal bracket with a white plastic clip in. I think the clip wears down so if you take the bracket off and out then tighten it fixes it.

How much is the part?

It's like 10 dollars a door or something. It's a metal bracket with a plastic clamp inside of it. I only replaced my driver side. It was the only bad piece.

Sometimes those pieces just need to be adjusted and tightened. It worked for me one time anyways.

I think my passenger side is gonna need replacing soon. Everyone that gets out of my car HAS to SLAM the door as hard as possible. I will resist stabing them for now but I'm not sure how much longer I can hold out. :biggrin2:

I was all for just adjusting mine. Till the plastic clip broke in the center (because I squeezed too hard). And it was saturday night. Which meant the dealer was closed till monday. It's not too important to actually keep the window up. So thats a good thing. I was able to JBweld it for a short time till a replacement came in.
Lesson: Don't squeeze the plastic clip, squeeze the metal.

I know exactly what you mean. I warn people that get in and out of my passenger door that the window is a little loose, but yet they always seem to manage to slam it and the damn thing rattles so bad. One of these days I wouldn't be surprised to see the window just fall into the door and then I would be forced to fix it.

It will shatter before it falls into the window, I've seen it done too many times and it's not a pretty story. The passenger usually ends up walking home.
