After seeing some of the collections of unbuilt kits for sale on this and the F1 modeling forum, I'm curious to know how many kits people have lying around waiting to be built.
I returned to the hobby in September and have one project underway, four more on the shelf and two more headed my way in the mail. :icon16: It's funny, because when I got started, I told myself I wasn't going to be one of those guys who's hording kits.
I once saw a photo of a modeler's garage on the F1 forum and it looked like the warehouse at HLJ.
So... how big is your pile?

Rough estimate puts around 150 in my pile of 'to build' kits and I think 9 started and in various stages of completion.

About 30, nearly all GT1 racers.
Started with a few, but don't seem to have the time to be actually building them :banghead:

Probably close to 50 car kits in the to build pile, and a half dozen or so started in various states of incompletion.
I didnt plan on hoarding either, but many of us learn the hard way that if you see a kit in your LHS that you know you will want to build, its easier to get it now than find it and pay for it on Ebay in a few years....

About 40. But since I'm now turning to customer's builds, they're probably never get done, and I'll likely just end up selling them when the store opens...

I would have to guess that I'm in the 150 range of kits in the "to do" pile. I too have learned long ago that if you see something you like it's much easier to get it know than to try and find it later (usually at a much higher price). Have to admit though, never thought I'd get to this level of madness.

I have about 60-70 kits waiting to be built.
(Better hope that my girlfriend doesn't read this post...):chair:
I'm currently working on three kits. Although working might not be the accurate word . My headquarters are located on the attic and with the current temperatures here of around 25-30 C it's no fun working on my models.

In my to do pile are 32 models, consisting of 14 Ferrari`s, 2 Porsche`s, 5 Lamborghini`s, 2 Mini Cooper`s, 4 Subaru`s, 4 Mitsubishi`s and a lonesome Bugatti. I have a Nissan 180SX and a Porsche 959 in progress, and 3 Mitsubishi`s in the mail, 1 from hlj and 2 from ebay. When am I actually gonna complete one? :dunno: Oh I also got the Mercedes SLR McLaren on pre-order from hlj.

It's not always about self control.
I'd say at least half of my pile is OOP kits, or limited production resin kits that were bought with a 'get it now, or it'll be gone' type of mindset. All the rest were just deals that were too good to pass up at the time, or trades.
I must admit it is nice to have a hobby-shop sized choice of what to work on when I want to start something new.

I currently have approximately 200 kits but I plan to probably sell about half my collection off towards Christmas. I have about 7 started models that I put back away again to finish at a later stage for one reason or another and 2 that I am currently working on. They are all (bar 7 anyway) race cars, predominantly Tamiya or Hasegawa in 1/24 scale with some old school rally 1/43 and a few 1/12. I never intended to get so many, but with prices going the way they are for even semi-rare kits I grab bargains whenever I can (occasionally on eBay but more commonly at hobby stores).
I also have transkits of one form or another for about half of these models.
I am currently suffering builders block though and don't seem to be able to get started, I am sure it will come to me though...

The quick answer is all 850 kits but as far as the number of kits already started, that would be about 35.
I plan to live to be 400 years old and build them all!

I started building about 2 years ago, and have been serious sbout it for about a year. In that time, I've accumulated about 25 kits (4 of which are in progress). This year, my New Year's resolution was zero growth - finish a kit for every kit I buy. I wish I could say I was sticking to it....

Oh and loads of decals, c/f, p/e etc.

About 350, mostly 1/24 plastic, about 20 or so are resin/multimedia; plus the aditional oddities in 1/12 and 1/32.
I guess most are about closed-wheel racing, but there are also a dozen of F1.
About 1/3 of them is started in various degrees, about 20 are about to be finished, just can't bring myself to do it.

Thank you Hiroboy for providing us with an excellent opportunity for a simple test. How do you react to seeing the pic below? Be honest, if only to yourself!
If you look at it and think, "Ooo, too many!" than you do posess some measure of self control and discipline, and there may in fact be hope for you.
http://www.spc.org.uk/gallery/albums/uploads/kits/unmade-kits-01.jpg
If instead like most of us you see a pic like this and immediately think "Wow- cool stash! OK let's see- gotit, gotit, needit, needit, gotit, needit...", than theres no hope yet for you, and your stash is fated to grow ever larger. The same applies for any of you thinking "Wow, where did he find-??!! I wonder if he'll sell me...?" :grinyes:
I hope you've enjoyed this fascinating tour of your inner psyche. :p :evillol:

We're moving in 3 weeks, at which time I will have a whole room to myself, with a whole closet to myself. The stash is likely to grow.

I took pics of my stash recently.. the reason being I was looking in my closet and found some stuff I didn't even remember buying, so I thought if i document it all, I can keep track of it better (and decide what to build next). My stash has a little bit of everything in it..

I'm sure we are all box collectors instead modeling, no doubt about it... :grinyes:
well, right now just 16 boxes... ops, I mean kits in my to-do pile, all DTM, BTTC and GT Tamiya sport cars, few wheel and tires sets and some photoetches.

I thought this was a lot. That is, until I read "200-300", etc. Still, these are going to take me a while. I'm not looking forward to that '65 GTO, second up from the bottom right. I am excited about the CLK-GTR (very top), and of course the Enzo and F430. There's also 6 on the workbench.

I have well over 300 kits. I know this because we just moved and I packed all of them and moved them.

I only have 278 in the waiting list, and 26 in process
My Wife one day asked me if I think that I will build all of them?, in an innocent attempt to make me think seriously and stop buying kits... it was hard not to laugh out:lol: , so I patiently answered, "No, I wont, but there they are if I need them", it is better having them and not needing them than needing certain model and not having it.
It is not a matter of self control; it is just part of the hobby.

I got nearly 100 for the unbuild kits and 80 something for the finished ones. And some diecast in 1/24 and 1/18. It's becoming rare to collect vintage model kits here in Jakarta, Indonesia due to the low number of modelshops that sell modelcars. Most of them only sells Military nor Airplanes..arrgghh hate them!
Here's my list.
I also got some rare ones that I used to bought from Ebay or Melbourne and of course Japan!
