Well... I finally broke down and tore the car apart... I've had a LT4 Hotcam Kit laying around staring at me for a month or so and now it's going in, with addition to a few other things. The new additions are going to be the cam, ported heads, match ported Intake manifold, new 1.6 rockers, springs, etc (all in the kit), pushrods, Heavy duty timing chain set, CSR electric water pump, pacesetter longtube ceramic coated headers, msd cap & rotor kit... the list goes on but I think that's most of it. So anyways, here's some pics...

I want to have about 400 HP with still decent gas mileage...but yeah, we will see what happens... and yes the engine is getting cleaned... oil leaks are a real bitch..

hmm, that's quite a bit of carbon there, I'd be a tiny bit curious about that. Especially if you blocked off the EGR, why the heck was there so much on the T/B ? :dunno:

Sweet.. You have a pretty clean garage there too, unlike most of us. :lol2:

what you use to clean the pistons?
cuda_dude
07-13-2006, 05:54 PM
I was thinking the carbon build-up was just from high miles but you could be on to something...... and you just use carb cleaner and a rag/papertowel to clean the pistons (make sure to re-oil though)

Yeah, clean that engine.
Looks like a lot of work there. I would love to take on a project like that, but I am too dumb to do it right.
So, after all that work of re-coating the headers, you just popped for the coated ones after all?
Looks like fun. When you get done, come and do mine too.

Those heads are currently in my garage right now sitting in a tank of acetone. lol. I will try to put some pics up of them during the port process and spring install. That thing is going to be a street monster after your done and right there boys and Rally is how you learn about cars. You rip into them.
Savage Messiah

definately ripping right into a car is the best way to learn.

07-13-2006, 08:37 PM
Rofl, boys and Rally. Yep, good way to learn however. That's what I do, my cars have no value after a month of owning them, but I learn a lot and have fun!

Well, its very difficult when you don't have all the right tools.
FormulaLT1
07-13-2006, 08:51 PM
What specialty tools does a LT1 f-body require besides maybe a E4 torx for the opti and a fuel line quick disconnect. Both of which can be had for around 5 -10 bucks each.

Sorry, I was thinking more along the lines of pulling the engine for a rebuild. Not exactly on topic, but that was my line of thought. Sorry, I'm not all here right now.

You have a corvette engine in there why not have a corvette Display?
Plus it majorly cleans up the exposed wires and ford injectors and all other crap that no one should have to see.

Before u do that why don't u just buy the fuel rail covers the say Z28 or have the red chevy emblem? They make them especially for camaros/trans am, i think they have them at fbodymotorsports or hawkthirdgen.

What Blazing said
To me, Corvette usually is synonymous with "Hey look at me I have no brains but a lot of money and I wanna feel cool and show off to my golfing buddies so I bought a corvette and I have no idea with an LS1 LS6 LS2 or LS7 is and I burn my clutch weekly but that's OK because I look cool, maybe I can pick up two twenty year olds in exchange for my fourty year old wife, and and by the way I'm a complete and total douchebag" etc etc

Here's a better example
Having the vette covers is liek taking a v6 os z28, putting an SS hood and spoiler, and then going and putting SS badges on it too. Or a v6 with z28 badges.

Oh, I get what your saying now. Like a really really really really really weak car using powerfuls car badges :) . In other words like a really really really really really really really really slow car having a fast cars badges :icon16:

Well I promised Cuda, I would post some progress pics of his heads but have been a little too lazy to get around to hosting them and such but finally here they are.
These are the Before and the one pics with the tiny screw driver are making note of the rough burred surface on the inside of the intake and take note of the space in the inside of the gasket that is being rounded/reshaped out and removed.

http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/2007/marcussheads017ld1.jpg
Now these are after the Intake and exhaust port. I have some bowl work pics that I am going to try and get uploaded as well. Notice the rounded smooth design and lack of burs now on the intake and the polished look of the exhaust so as to not have carbon build up.
