How often is it recommended that the MTF be changed on a 5-speed 95 civic 1.5? I wasn't aware that it ever needed to be changed, then some dude told me every 30k miles . That sounds more like for an automatic. Help me clear this up.

I have a buddy, had a 89 crx w/ 5spd tranny, bought a new motor, so we decided to go ahead and change the oil in the tranny, you know for a whole fresh start, in about a month the tranny was trash, dont know if it was just coincidence or what. but I have always heard its bad to change it, just what ive heard not quite sure if it is fact but seein what happened in my experience i dont do it

What?!? Poor driving probably led to the trans breaking, not changing the oil, unless you used milk. Every 30k is the recomended interval to change your gear oil, which you should do! Capcatiy is a bout 2.5 qts and I recomend genuine Honda manual trans oil.

That wasn't personal, I was just clearing that statement up. Changing the oil will greatly prolong the life of your trans, wether it be manual or automatic.

I have a similar question. Last time i changed my tranny oil i used valvoline 90w-80. When i dont use honda stuff i use valvoline. But when i told my connection at the honda dealer he told me i was stupid to use anything but honda tranny fluid. What would the diffenence be ?
