How is this kit: AMT '68 Camaro

How is this kit? I want a '68 for it's cleaner lines (like the flushish headlights and the turn signals in the grill), they will lend themselves better to a pro-touring (really) car better than a 69, I think. How is the body molding? Crisp or soft? Is it typical AMT soft (that I can deal with) or is it an old release of an older tool that's lost some of what quality it once had over the years? Pretty much everything else on the car is negotiable - interior, engine, even the chassis, since it will all be mostly replaced. Is that big hole already in the hood, or is it something you cut out optionally?

not bad, the proportions are perfect I feel. but it is a street mechine so the only hood in the kit has a big hole in it.. the details are a little soft, but nothing major.

The aftermarket has this kit well covered, there is an SS hood, flat hood, and outlaw hood available for it.

Who makes the hoods? Perry's Resin and ReliableResin don't, who else do I check?

Yea it´s a good kit even with amt standards... An SS hood would look h00t on it, about the ´68 in general, can´t stand those rounded wheel arches!!!!!!!! Never liked the ´67-68 models, just my personal preference.

yup, Rupps ´68 is bangin but Eric McEllans ´68 is pretty damn hot as well and it´s got the SS hood.

Reliable Resin will have several new hoods for the AMT '67-68 Camaros real soon. The masters are done for the SS hood, plain flat hood, stock cowl induction, and L88 Baldwin Motion hood. Available now from Reliable Resin is what they call the "XP 35th" hood that features the scoop from the 2002 Camaro SS. The hood is currently listed on ebay and can be ordered direct from www.reliableresin.com.

Keith Marks had decals for EVERY version of '67-68 Camaros ever done and MCG has photoetch for it. Watch for the hoods and other new upgrade parts for this kit from Reliable Resin.

One more thing...if you want a more detailed chassis for this kit, you can use the Revell '69 Camaro chassis and firewall once you remove the molded in parts on the AMT '68 body.

Just out of curiousity, since this kit was retooled in the late 80's, early 90's into a 1967 Z-28 with a flat Z-28 hood, why not just use that otherwise forgettable kit as a parts donor instead?
