I havent been on these forums for a while. been really busy graduating high school and enjoying my summer.
I noticed a rod in my engine starting to knock about 3000-4000 miles ago. it steadily speeds up with the RPM's, and just get super annoying. i usually have my music loud enough so i dont have to hear it, but i know its not gonna just go away.
my questions are:
A. Am i completely screwed? any simple fix?
B. How long will my engine last? given that i baby it and keep oil in it.
C. How much do you think i can get for it?
1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse, 100k miles, salvage title, some paint damage. and the mods listed below (if you can call them mods).
im not expecting much, prolly around $1000-2000.

With a busted rod I wouldn't expect to even get 1000 out of it like that. I'm sure if you've been running it for the last 3000 miles like that then the cylinder wall is royally jacked up. Its gonna need some machine work on the block and the bottom end will need to be rebuilt... Tis sad that you let it go that long... Adding oil isn't gonna make it last any longer. I'm surpised its lasted this long...
I'll give you 100 bucks for it. lol

 Or a gunshot. ;)
If you would have caught it right away, I think you probably could have gotten away with just dropping the oil pan, taking off the bearing cap on the cylinder in question, replacing the bearings, and putting it back together. It seems shafty as hell to me, but I think I have heard its ok if it hasnt bee knocking too hard. Sure its a rod? I dont think that rod knocks will last that long. My buddy threw a rod on his 420a Neon on the second pull to redline right after it started knocking (he blew it on purpose BTW, dont know why but he did).

I drove a 95 formula with a knocking rod for a couple of days......until the rod welded it's self to the crank :icon16:

I doubt it's a rod knock if you've been driving it for over a week. Rod knocks will get steadily louder and louder and then it will just break and that's all she wrote for the motor. If you really want to know, pull the pan and check the rod bearings, that will give you your answer.
