i have an '88 hatchback. Whenever I turn the blinker on the heat hand jumps up and down. Whenever I turn the headlights on(high beams only) the heat hand and the fuel hand go all the way up? Same thing when I turn the hazards on. I asked an electricain and he said it's a bad ground somewhere but they want $65/hour just to find it. Anyone have any good ideas where it could be at. THanks

check your valve cover, and thermostat grounds. Sand all contact points down to bare metal and then tighten them back on.

^^^ what he said... but I'd be looking for 'short's' as well. Take your cluster cover off, get a volt meter & go nuts :D It shouldn't be too hard to find...

instead of starting a new thread I thought I would keep this one going. If you have read the previous posts than you know what my problem is. I did what you guys said and it is still doing the same thing. I talked to a couple of electrians and they said that it could be in the blinker switch itself. So I went out and bought another blinker switch...used of course...a new one would probably cost to much. Still it didn't fix anything. Any of you have anymore ideas. The person I bought this car from left wires for a tach and an amplifier in the car and they were still hooked up just no amp and no tach. Could they of shorted something out since they were hot wires just lying in the car??

Maybe the wires behind your cluster controlling fuel and temp have melted and come into contact with the blinker wire, so whenever you turn on your blinkers, the fuel and temp guages recieve that signal. I'd say follow the wires behind your dash and inspect them to see if there worn out or coming into contact with each other.
