Edit: I guess you could include this, too. 01R on the wall, 015 on the very right.

Nice find BMW.WilliamsF1Team. Thanks for sharing. Jay is my hero! So much success, yet I hear he remains a nice guy. Not to mention his love for the F1...

I will be very sad when he leaves the Tonight Show in 2009.

Anyway, thanks again for the pics.

I don't think it will be too sad once he leaves the show. He'll probably have a lot more time to drive and work on his cars. Maybe 015 will go out on the road more frequently :) The glass is always half full!

Why does the F1 have a Massachussets plate? Jay's garage is in / near LA isn't it? Maybe because it's easier to register a F1 in Massachussets? Other cars, including his Rocket, don't seem to have registration plates at all... Someone knows the reason(s)?

Cheers, Ruben

It could have to do with difficulty registering an F1 in CA because of our stringent emissions regulations, but Larry Ellison, Elon Musk and Peter Manelis F1s have all worn CA plates, and Clifford Meltzer's could have so I think there is another reason.

Registration fees in CA typically run between 1-2% of the vehicle's value on a yearly basis, so it's not uncommon for people with very expensive cars in CA to register them out of state. Rich people didn't usually become wealthy by throwing their money away. ;)

Jay grew up in Massachusetts and may still have a home there, hence the MA plate.

As for the lack of plates on other vehicles, he may have "Dealer" plates that he moves from car to car, which would negate the need to have each one registered. I have one photo of his Rocket on the freeway here in SoCal and don't see a plate mounted in the standard location on the rear. He may keep it in the car with him, but legally it is supposed to be openly visible. CA also requires a front plate but it's not strictly enforced.

I talked to Cliff about getting his car registered in CA--It cost him over $60,000 when al lwas said and done to pass emissions and all and then when
it passed he put all the factory stuff right back on

The paint on the car is original in this case, so the stripe wasn't Leno's decision. There are/were at least 4 F1s with the stripe on the ventline of the door painted red like that - #002, #015, #020 (on a respray and fitment of the HDF Kit), and finally a silver car in Japan with an unknown chassis number.

Thanks Peleton! When I made a big group trip on motorcycles through the US last year we also went through California (Highway 1 is the greatest road I have EVER driven on!) and it struck me that a lot of cars and bikes also didn't have back plates at all. The police really don't mind that much?

No wonder they're registered out of state! That's ridiculous especially if you own well over $10mm in cars. Heck, it's only $35 flat here in FL last time I checked. I can't see how you guys can afford to live out there, lol!
