I have a 1997 GTP that does not have any headlights, the tailights, turnsignal and parking lights all work with the daytime and with the switch. Brights and dims both inop and if you flip the dimmer switch there is no light on the dash to indicate brights. I have checked the fuse and relay in the glovebox and the fuse under the hood, all ok. No power at the headlights themselves an d at the back of the headlight switch I do have some power at certain wires all the same no matter if lights are on or off. I bought this car and didn't check the headlights thinking that they worked now I am screwed and in need of HELP thanks to anyone with any ideas. Timmy

I will assume you checked the headlight bulbs and they are not burned out? Check the dimmer switch located on the steering column. It may be out of adjustment and stuck between settings. Move the lever and follow the rod to the switch, then push it in by hand. If your lights come on, loosen the two mounting screws and slide the switch toward the steering wheel. Try again at the lever and see if they now work. IF manually operating the switch doesn't work and the bulbs are good, the dimmer switch, headlight switch, or DRL module may be to blame.

Ok tried a few more things and still need help. No headlights but if headlight switch is either off or in parking light position and you pull back on the dimmer switch them the brights will work while holding but if you let go they go out ro if you turn the headlight switch to on then they also go out. Tried a headlight switch out of another know good car and no difference. Could it be the multifunction switch/ turn signal switch??? anybody know what wires to test. need help bad!!! Thanks Timmy

it absolutely sounds like the multi/stalk is the problem. I had exactly the same problem on my 97 Regal. For a few days i was driving around with a matchbook wedged in the column to keep the brights on. there should be power to the back of the headlights. When the multi switch goes bad , you lose the ground. Out of anger i did pull the stalk back really har a few times and let it snap forward and the low beams came on a few times. Problem is that the switch is very expensive. New is somewher around $300, i think. I went to the junkyard and got the whole column for $100. Benefit was that i was able to remove the stalk on the bench before i had to do it to my car. It is not needed to remove the steering wheel or airbag to do this part. Make sure you disconnect the battery before the repair. .....P.S....Before i did the multi switch i change the dash push/pull switch because the old one had some brittle looking connections....Good luck!
