tail wing and fwd cars

hey all,

i've just thought of something that doesn't really make sense to me. i hope u guys can help me clear this up.

okay. tail wings creats a downforce in the rear of a vehicle, right? if someone puts a wing a FWD car, in exaggeration, wouldn't that lift the front wheels upward? i'm not saying that something like that will happen, but doesn't it seem to defy the laws physics?

As far as I know, a proper tail wing affects the whole car. When a car is in motion, it's not just the wing that travels through the air. It starts at the front and travels over, under and around the car. A proper tail wing will cause the air travelling under the car to go faster than the air going over the car. This decreases the pressure below the car which creates downforce which turns the whole car into an upside down airplane wing. For a more detailed explanation, see this month's issue of Sport Compact Car, near the back of the issue.

that 'wing' your talking about on our G's are not going to make much difference in down force other than adding turbulance at the rear of the car. the turbulence will cause the car to stick to the ground more, but there's not enough to lift the front end. it does make some benefit to have rear downforce especially on hard corners to keep your rear from slipping under you. but as far as I know on the street, it is very hard to over steer this car in the middle of a turn even if you lift your foot off the accelerator.
