College.... oh fiddlesticks

Well I had my orientation at college this past Monday and Tuesday. It was uber boring most of the time, they told us the same old shit like 3-4 times all damn day. I am going to the U of M Institute of Technology in Minneapolis, MN. I am pretty excited, but I am now a lot more worried. In the IT, we only really have like 5 Lib Ed classes the whole 4 years and all of them are like Social Science, History, etc electives. My first semester I have Calc II, Biology, Intro to Micro Econ, and Physics. I am a little scared, I dont get to take any of those really lib ed classes my friends took like bowling and dance. Before these past two days, I was all gung ho to get to college, now I am frankly a bit scared. Its not the new people, I had no problems with that at orientation. They say the average IT student to make an average grade needs to spend 3 hours per credit (including class time) per week. Well, I am taking 16 credits next fall so I will need to spend atleast 48 hours per week to make an average grade. That is including class time, but its still going to average out to be like 2.5-3.5 hours per day outside of class studying. Thats 2.5-3.5 more than I am used to. Granted I wont have to spend all fucking day in a classroom, then 3 hours after school at a sport, then 6-9 hours each weekend day working like I did in high school but I think its going to be hard to force myself to do that much homework. I guess I'll just have to find me a cute study parter :D. There is some serious burners down there guys, I was almost poppin one off all fuckin day ;). How are you other newly college students feeling? Any advice from the "Been there done that" crowd?

I was a freshman last year. You won't have to do nearly as much work as they say. I spent maybe an hour or two per day doing homework and studying for my 15 credits, and most of that was at my campus job where I was bored and had nothing better to do but study and get paid for it. :)

college isn't as hard as they say for most. For some yes you may need to put that much into it. Outside of classes I spend about 10 hours a week on general stuff. On my CS classes I'd spend upwards of 20 hours on one class a week though. But it's not hard work by any means. Just budget your time and you will be fine.
I graduate this december then off to grad school next fall...

I havent attended orentation yet, its during the beginning of august. so... its coming up fast. i'm a little worried to quit my job (heartland automotive tech) and move 2 hours away from my girlfriend. but in some ways, i'm way excited. my sister just got back this summer from her first year of collage @ the same school (University of Texas) and said it wasnt to bad, and i'm smarter then her by a long shot , so that made me feel better. i dont reallu have any advice for a collage student having not been one yet, but i know that i'm going to do what i have to in order to get through it all. good luck though. and Money is going to be tight... so mods are going to slow down, also i'm leaving my DSM at my parents house *in the gurage* so 6 months, no DSM= AHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, forgot we couldnt swear in the titles. I'm leaving the DSM here too, but it'll be here when I get home for the summer. I dont have a girl to move away from thank god, definately looking forward to college girls. I am in the Mechanical Engineering program, thats why I'm buggin out. Its a bit tougher than most CLA schedules. Physics is going to be death. I think we have 3 lecture sessions, 2 discussion sessions, and 2 lab sessions per week :banghead:. I have had it in high school though, so I should be pretty ready for it. Other than that, I'm not too worried. I've already had Calc II so that wont be too bad, but I will still need to work at it. Econ is just easy. Biology is going to be decent too, I think I am taking the class that touches on all the topics, not just a few or from a certain veiw point. It should be fun though. I started looking at stuff for my dorm. I wanted a big shag rug, but that shit is expensive and its not really that shaggy. I did find a good, cheap area rug though. We cant have lava lamps or christmas lights either . Ahh well, its still going to be a cool dorm.

Thats the same thing that I'm going for. I'll have my dsm though considering that I dont have any other car to drive
Thor06

I'm not going to have a car down there. Theres only like 800 parking spaces available to the 6500 people living on campus. So great, if you are only of the lucky 12% to get a permit, they are like 400 and some odd dollars per semester to park. Then you have to find the empty spaces. Man, I would rather just buy the $62 bus pass.

Nice, you better invite me to some kick ass campus parties! College is not to bad, I am just trying to finish up my summer classes now, 2 more weeks! Then gotta start over this fall :-(, only one more year yay!
remember these two things:
1) party hard
2) mix in the AF forum while studying :-)
GOOD LUCK, it isn't as hard as people make it out to be...

college is going to fucking rule, im going to fucking dominate that shit. making friends is easy, studying is easy, keeping a relationship lasting while at college is hard, handling -37 degree wind chills will be hard... hahahah I can't wait. College is like jail, you gotta make someone your bitch the first day, or be someone's bitch for four years. ( I really hope you don't take that seriously, I thought it was funny that my friend told me that)
