1995 Sonoma 2.2l

Recently my truck just all of the sudden quit while i pushed the clutch in.I tried to start it back up but all it would do is crank and not fire.At first i thought it wasnt getting any feul, but the pump and flow is all fine.I have a good spark, wires are all good so i pulled the valve cover and nothing is moving when i try to start it and there is no compression in the front piston but the rest are fine.Now im thinking it could be that my timing chain broke, but i dont hear any noise coming from that area, could the timing sprockets be completely stripped of its teeth and just not makin noise or could the cam shaft be broken or am i looking for the problem in the wrong area?:banghead: Any help would be great at this point, i dont want to use anymore of my vacation time fixing my vehicle.

If you have compression in 5 cylinders but not #1 that's not a timing chain, that's a blown ring...A timing chain breaking is an incredibly rare occourance (timing belts on the other hand...) And no way would the sprokets be completely stripped.

So based on what you've said so far with that cylinder having no compression, you're ring on that piston is blown..

I got the timing cover off and i was right, the chain was broke.it looked like the tensioner went and the chain wasnt tight and eventually broke.the pistons are all fine (all 4 of them) just the valves on 1 are stuck open, which would explain the 0 compression on that piston.

I'm really surprised at that. Normally if the chain brakes (again rare) it makes a bad chunking noise when trying to start it... That's really odd. Glad ya tracked it down though!

So am I haha. the chain was bunched together and not ever close to being turned when i attempted to start it, so it wasnt making any noise and thankfully it didnt fall into the crankcase, no damage was done but i wont relax just yet until i replace everything tommorow and start it.so far i consider myself lucky. hahaha
