if its leaking oil that means theres still oil in the case, which is a good thing. Call your local Mitsu dealer and ask. I know they deal with them on a case by case basis, and i also know there has been many threads about the recall, try a search. I think it depends on the year of the car, i seem to recall 10 years coming to mind...meaning they will only do 1996 and newer cars, but definitely call Mitsu.
In the meantime, DEFINITELY STOP DRIVING IT.

I did and they said the recall is closed and i have a 1996 3000GT VR4 ahhhhhhhh. This sucks. When i get the car jacked up i hope the it's not cracked or anytying maybe it's just a seal.

the seals were what was actually recalled i believe, so, unless you have been launching and driving extremely hard, it is almost definitely a bad seal. Shouldnt be too expensive of a part.
EDIT: Also, when you refill it, i suggest BG Synchroshift. I changed my transmission and transfer case lube to BG Synchroshift just less than a month ago, and i notice a world of improvement.

Ok i'll keep that in consideration. Is the transfer case pretty dificult to mess around with? I looked at it and i dont see any visible cracks on the transfer case. If it is bad seals would it be pretty difficult to change? If not i think me and a buddy can difinetly do it. Were can i go about find these seals?

Yes it is still under recall. Dealerships just don't like doing free work. I know I just posted the number to call not too long ago in another t-case thread. I'll see if I can find it. Basically you just have to be assertive and not take 'NO' as an answer. This is their engineering screw up, it's a safety recall, they HAVE to do it. If you piss off enough people high enough up, it will get done.

The phone numbers are somewhere in those 2 threads.

Well i called the mitsubishi head quarters and they said that they checked my car dec. or 2002 and didnt need to be replaced so what do i have to do to make mitsu. pay for this? I called and they said that the recall is closed and theirs nothing they can do about it? Could you be alittle more specific in the actions I have to do?

so they checked your car in dec of 2002? what does that mean...it wasn't broken then? well tell them its been 4 years since they've checked it, and you think its broken.
quit panicing, get a hold of yourself, and don't take NO for an answer. just keep calling them and insist that they need to take care of this.
the last guy in the threads mentioned just let everybody walk all over him like they're doing to you. he kept coming back here for answers on what to do. we're glad to help, but just be persistent for God's sake.

LOL oh yea i gave mistu. headqaurters my two cents. They said that in dec. 2002 it was checked and there was no flaw and no parts were replaced and now it's all messed up. So im gonna get it checked out and if it is t-case specific im gonna be like you like me drive with this car with a possible defective t-case that can cause me harm. The dealership is nice just not the office poeple. Im gonna win this case for my fellow 3kgt drivers. I'll keep you guys all updated!!!! Were gonna win one for the 3kgt!

If you want to read through all of those, somewhere there are some names/numbers (kinda like the better business bureau) that you can complain to, or threaten to complain to. Ignore all the stuff about it only applying to some years, because that is nonsense. I've heard of 2nd gens getting the recall done, I've heard of 91s getting the recall done. It's an engineering flaw which was recalled as a safety recall. Safety recalls don't expire. As said above, just don't take no for an answer. Persistance pays off.

I will get this transfer case thing. Im just pissed that mitsu is being such a prick about it. The transfer case malfuntioned you put a recall out on it and you fixed it in the past and i dont know why they cant fix it now. I got alot of numbers to call.

Here's the whole situation. On Dec 2002 the owner who i purchased the car took it in for a check up of the Transfer Case. The transfer case was fine visually so no part was installed on my car. Now my transfer case is leaking oil everywhere. And now mitsu. wont honor their recall. Do i have to complain to the NHTSA offce? Tomorrow i will make some more phone calls and bitch some more and take no as an answer like you guys told me to.

Yeah, I'd would. I'd also keep calling and asking for people's managers. If they can't help you, ask for someone who can.
So what if the part was still ok in '02. It was a part that was prone to failure, and had a safety recall put on it. It hadn't failed in '02, but it did now, does that mean they aren't liable because their crappy engineering held together for 6 years, but not 10. NO!
Call every dealership within your area, I'd also go on 3si, and ask in the regional section for a decent dealership in your area, perhaps and probably, somebody in your area has had this happen, and knows someplace that will deal with it.
If all you get are NOs from the dealerships, keep pissing off regional managers, and corporate headquarters. Threaten, and then actually file complaints with anyone you can.
