2000 T@C oil pressure question??

Hi,

My 2000 T@C 3.8L oil pressure light comes on when the RPM is at 600.
Van is warm A/C is on. I would like to check the oil pressure and the switch.
Does anyone know at what pressure switch trips at,what the min. idle oil pressure is ?? Has anyone had this problem ?

Thanks for your help in advance,

Fred D.

I think the engine control computer turns the light on when the pressure is low. I don't think that there is a switch at all. Some scan tools have the option of reading the sensors in real time, if you get one, you can plug it in and actually read the pressure at you drive. If the oil pressure actually comes up to 45psi or so when you are driving, the sensor is probably OK and you actually have very low pressure at an idle. In that case your bearing are either worn out to the point that the pump can't maintain pressure or the oil pump is worn out and can't keep up, or a little of both.
My Jeep Cherokee has a similar problem. In the summer heat, the pressure drops too low when idling hot with the AC on. I put a Band Aid on the problem by changing from the 10-30 oil specified to 15-50 synthethic. The thicker oil seems to hold a lot more pressure when the engine is hot.
