last week i raced a cavalier, a 1997, 2.2 liter, automatic, convertible, i drive a 1998 2.2 liter 5 speed, coupe, after only 2 blocks i was far enough ahead of him that i could pull in front of him (into his lane), i was winning way faster then i had expected, my question is why?? i know the 97 2.2's have 5 more horsepower then the 98 2.2's, so he's got me there, i also had a completely full tank of gas, hes also got me there, the 2 advantages i had on him were my 5 speed tranny, and my warm air intake, also im sure my 2500 rpm launch didnt hurt, but i was thinking..... is there a huge weight difference between a coupe and a convertible cavalier?????
im not trying to start another "forum war" here, but i'd like to hear some opinions.....
also, im 100% confident he didnt let me win, he was trying the hole time, ive seen this kid around town ALWAYS driving like a jackass, like he owns the streets,

lol i bet if you put all the 2.2's all together some are going to be faster than others. I raced a kid with a fart pipe and a cai, and i had a wai and i smoked him. all depends on the car, and stuff.

yeah I know that the convertibles weigh more than the coupes, so you had him there. and also having a 5spd didnt hurt you there either lol
edit- well it doesnt way too much more actually

Still, thats like having a fat friend in the passenger seat, every bit helps. It also really depends on the car, some cars just 'run' better than others.. Also how its been maintained, etc.

yeah i mean you motor could have been running alot better than his. you could have better oil in your car. your mods im sure helped also. him driving a convertible cavy doesnt help lol i dont like them. your 5spd like mentioned before. weight difference.

It was pretty much just the launch and the fact your a 5spd.

It was pretty much just the launch and the fact your a 5spd. yeah im telling ya the fact that is was a 5spd against auto is a main reason for winning. no i know there is auto cars out there that will take stick shifts one with no problem, but im talking about the same cars pretty much stock.

The different stages of wear both engines were in, the fact you said he drives like a jackass, and of course a good launch. My thinking.

you will beat him. vert = heavier and enough so to completely rule out the 5hp advantage. top down = increased drag co-efficient and the huge fact it was an auto which puts less power to the ground due to no mechanical link between the trans and the engine, it's all just oil/fluid sloshing around and it probably all told puts 5-10hp less to the front wheels weighs more and has more drag. if you didn't win then maybe something would be wrong! Also if it was a 3speed auto you had him on gearing also!
