Well, the past 5-6 weeks I have been really lazin around, playing warcraft, and just, well, bludging. Started riding my bike heaps again getting back in shape, riding for 1 hour a day, 5 hours yesturday, 1 week till uni goes back.
I'm a drinker, I don't drink all the time, usually every friday.
Should giving up drinking be a priority? I drink beer, and lots of it.

Well beer is a boat load of calories so the stock answer would be cut back or even stop for a while (blasphemy).
If you are seeing the kind of improvements you are looking for and still want to drink then I don't see why you shouldn't. But if you aren't making the gains you want try going dry for a week or two and see if it makes any difference. If you go the route of the latter and still feel the need for inebriation then try drinking something with less calories and more alcohol like liquor or paint thinner.

Davo, try drinking really light beers, Beck's Premier Light has just 64 calories. dunno if its still got a nice taste to it, though... Liquor is an option, try it with some tonic water.
goodluck

I drink a bottle of wine every 2 days, and the week end.... more, and other alcohols. A little Pear, Calva or Pastis, it's always good for the health ;)
Beer, it's good sometimes, but not too much for the belly !

A gram of protein or of carbs = ~4 calories
A gram of fat = ~9 calories
And a gram of alcohol = ~7 or 8 calories
So while your body can use protein and carbs, and even fats, it cannot use alcohol...all it can do is metabolise is and then excrete it. So while it is A) high in calories B) slowing down all functions of your body, including metabolism, and C) using energy/calories to metabolize, that your body could have been using to burn fat or other food eaten.
So it hits you basically in 3 negative ways.
Here is the thing. Volume-wise, a beer has as much alcohol as a shot of 80proof liquor. So either way, you are getting those calories, now while many people say go with alcohol instead of beer, is because beer has additional carbs in it as well. But if you add soda or mixers to your liquor, it defeats the purpose because you are now getting those additional carbs as well. The only difference being in beer, there are some good carbs and dietary fiber, whereas most mixers are just sugars.
Anyway, off topic, but the point is, you don't have to cut out alcohol, hell I know I couldn't. But it really is about 2 things. 1) being spend more calories then you consume 2) balanced eating
To really get a good idea of what you are putting into your system. Try using www.fitday.com
I use it to record what I eat and all my exercise. And it shows how many calories you are taking in, and how many you are using. Aim to eat 500 less than you are using per day, and you will lose a 1lb a week...which is nice and safe. I drink quite heavily a few nights a week, I'm talking 15+ beers, but I balance it out with really strict eating. If I know I'm going to drink 2500 calories worth of alcohol that night, I'll stick to brown rice, chicken, whey protein shakes, adn vegetables, and get in a good workout...I can drink ridiculous amounts and not gain a pound...but that is because I keep track of it all.
When I didn't, and I stopped working out seriously for a year, I packed on 20 some pounds. So basically you don't have to give it up, just keep it in moderation, or watch what you eat more.

I wouldn't give up beer totally man. I'd check out my eating habits first. For every hour you play warcraft, i'd try to do 20mins on the bike.
Drink a beer while you bike. it'll make you feel better, and it will give you something to motivate you while you ride.
Also, with the liquor thing, i wouldn't try that. Try a glass of wine or something a little softer than 151 liquor or Jack. That will really catch up to you. (My mom's a bartender) I love wine. You should try Pinot Noir. It's my favorite besides Cherry Blush.

Not all liquor is 151 proof. Most are actually 40-50 proof.

By saying that my mom's a bartender, I implied that i had some clue about alcohol.
151 proof would make the content of alcohol in a drink 75.5%. Most liquors are around 80Pf which is 40% alc. by volume.

I have no prob with my motivation anymore, only on days when I wake up and can't be half arsed doing anything but PvPing.
I'm starting to catch the train to uni, catch is the ONLY train that gets me to class on time, actually gets me to class an hour before class starts, so I have a full one hour to ride around and shit, and I did that today. Although it's flat, the further up the coast I get off to ride down to uni the harder I ride.
Mondays its aight, I dont get to ride after class much, but Wednesday, Thursday and Friday I have a full hour before class, and an hour after class until my train comes so I see it as I save money by getting off the train (and on) 3-4 stations north. w00tz0r! :icon16:
I still have slowed my drinking down a lot.
