1989 did infact have Eclipse/Talons. That's why the 99's had the 10th anniversary cars. I think they were made in '89, but were introduced as '90 because they always jump ahead in model year. Just my thoughts.

when mitsubishi merged with dodge in the late 80's they formed DSM (diamond star motor Corperation). In 1988 they had all the design's planned out for the laser, talon and eclipse. in early 1989 they started making them. I only seen 4 Dsm's that are title'd in 89.
ALSO alot of people dont know this but in 89-early 1992 there was a Talon Non-turbo made with 167HP unlike the stock 136HP non-turbo 4g63's.

The reason I ask is a buddy of mine was looking in the paper and he saw and article for a 89 Eclipse Turbo Sunroof $875. That's why I asked and no I havent called on it, and yes I probably will.

I've never seen a 89 either... I have often wondered about it though. They probably just made a few.

What the heck? If there are only 4 89's then they are all here in Ohio. lol I have seen probably 6 or 7 of them in the last 2 years or so. They were all Lasers though, never a Talon or Eclipse. :)

I've heard of the 89's but have never seen one. If I owned one I would probably just call it a 90 instead of having to explain to all the "smart" dsmers that they actually made an 89.

I dont know about this 167 hp non turbo. We all know of the 90 hp sohc 1.8, 135 N/A 4g63, and of course the 195 hp 4g63t. I'd like to see some facts around the 167 hp claim.

What is an Eclipse CT?
The Eclipse CT was a cabriolet (convertible) concept model of 1G DSM that may have been shown in Europe in the 1990s. It was never mass-marketed, and DSMers had to wait until the 1995 model year before a convertible model was introduced.
Information on the CT is extremely limited. It is not known for certain if the car was ever built at all, aside from a bare few concept cars. However, according to Johannes Schweidler, the car may have been marketed in 1994 in Germany. All of the available literature appears to be in German, which supports this conclusion. However, it was also made in the 1990-1991 body style (with pop-up headlights) which would have been unusual for a DSM marketed in 1994. He also never saw one, which indicated at the time that they might not have been sold after all.
Recently, Tóth Balázs of Club DSM Hungary has confirmed that the CT does exist and was marketed around 1994 in Germany. Apparantly, discerning buyers can actually find them for sale occasionally on sites such as www.mobile.de, assuming you can read the advertisement. He also says that all European Eclipse models were made in the pop-up headlight style from 1990 to 1994 - a departure from all other known Eclipse models.
The CT may have been the precursor to the 1996 Spyder convertible that is mentioned in by Ernest Cline in this digest posting. Kris Kjelstrup also mentions a 1G convertible concept car on display at the DSM plant in this post. Mark Luttrell has also confirmed that a hand-assembled commemorative Eclipse CT was on display in a Mitsubishi factory in celebration of the one millionth car produced there; unfortunately, photographs were prohibited.
If we assume this display concept is an Eclipse CT, we can conclude from these posts that the CT was a FWD car. It also seems likely that it used the turbocharged 4G63 engine, as well, since concept cars tend to pack a lot of power.
However, Tóth also says that all European Eclipse models (the CT included) used the 150 hp non-turbo 4G63, making the turbocharged version of the car unavailable on that continent. Indeed, most European turbo Eclipse models appear to be American models imported to Europe. This will undoubtedly make the CT less attractive to North American buyers interested in something unique, since the CT will probably have all of the problems of a regular non-turbo to turbo conversion, not to mention the problems of importing the car.
Unfortunately, some of the on-line information on the CT has already become unavailable. For an idea of what the car is/was like, take a look at these technical drawings. There was some more technical information here, but it seems to have been lost. You can also try Club DSM Hungary for some pictures in the Gallery, if it is working.

There is no proof to that, it's all speculation. Also, it said they used the regular ass N/T 4g63 that had the usual 150 hp...not no 167 hp motor like you claimed.
