Driving lights

I have a set of older driving lights(still new in box)that I was thinking of installing as extra reverse lights. I'll install them to be independent of the factory lights. I opened the pack and it saw it doesn't use a relay. I know I've seen kits w/relays - what is better? What do the relays do for the system and what could happen w/o them?

With a relay setup, you are using the power from the reverse lights (in this case) to turn the relay on so that the power can be drawn directly from the battery which would make the driving lights you have run on their own circuit. Without a relay you are putting extra load on the reverse light circuit.

The lights won't be hooked to the truck's lights. They are going to be indepenent - hooked to power source - toggle switch.

Depending on the type of switch you use, over time you could melt the contacts in the switch if you don't use a relay.

i have done this set up but i put a relay and inline fuse in my set-up and wired it so they automaticly turn off if i forget to turn em off by wiring it with the fusebox to the ing. it helps alot to have a set in back...but they look alot better on the 95-97 bumper due to the way you can tuck em in...
