The Indy car won the total 1-mile race, but who was fastest from the start to turn #1? From the starting line to Turn #1 is 1/4 mile.

1991 Toyota MR2 Turbo (Hyde): http://s57.photobucket.com/albums/g236/wickedmr2/?action=view&current=MOV00359.flv
1990 Indy Car Buick V6 turbo running straight methanol (Bobby Rahal's old car): http://s57.photobucket.com/albums/g236/wickedmr2/?action=view&current=MOV00289.flv

... so whose faster on the "straight?"

... if so, only to the turn. The g's the Indy car pulls (and the balls of the driver) are far greater than what I could offer. That car is simply amazing.

I had lots of people commenting about the the acclerartion of Hyde though ... I'm grateful for the out-of-car videos as it gives me perspective on this.

The Indy Car set a new hill record ... as in THE hillrecord ... at 39.000 seconds (literally tripped the beams with triple zeros!). The previous record was 39.9. The Indy cars average speed was just over 90 mph (remember, starting from a dead stop).

Way before that, holders of the overall Giant's Despair hill record include Carol Shelby and Roger Penske!

Hyde set a new SM2 record and was the fastest "door car" there.
We even managed to beat all of the race cars that started out as door cars :)
Hyde's best was 48.3 seconds wit han average sped of 74.5 mph.

The local newspaper has the times for the winners of each class, but not everyone:

Congrats Jeff... the Indy car might of broke the all time record, but could he drive his SM2 record holder home... and stop at the grocery store to get that milk you forgot the other day?

I submit... not. ;)

man thats great. you really got that little car working well. heh if you didnt already post the results i was gonna ask if teh indy car finished lol. those old buick indy cars had quite the reputation for running away from the field and then not finishing the race due to engine failure.
