Surging Idle on '96 Z34

Hi newbie here, but in need of some help. I have a '96 cavalier z24 with the 2.4 that is stock. I am having trouble with the idle surging when the AC is on. It will idle ok in park and in gear, but as soon as I turn the AC on the idle begins to jump by about 500-800 rpms. Has anyone ever had this problem? I have done a tune-up but that didn't fix it. I was thinking it might be a ground wire of something? Any help would greatly appreciated considering it is summer time in Texas.

are you talking about a cavalier z24 or monte carlo z34?
*edit* he fixed the typo...

2.4 liter = z24, hence the "2" and the "4"
if its a 96 cavalier, its a z24

on a standard keyboard, the 2 is right next to the 3, so it could have been a simple typo (or he could just be an idiot)

It was a typo. I corrected it. I'm still having an issue with the idle under load though.
