17's on my 96 Suburban

I have a friend at a dealership that can get me a full set of 17's (take-offs) from a '06 Tahoe to put on my '96 Suburban. I can get the new tires and new rims for $450 - $500. They stated the backspacing is a bit different and the tires may sit a bit more inboard versus the 16's with the rims I have on it now.

Since I can get new tires for about $90 - $100 each, this price for 4 new tires & rims has me thinking about it....

Any issues that I may encounter, with the size or backspace?

Deal or no deal???

I went from 15s to 16s on my '90 Sub. I used German Ronal R-9's designed for a Camaro/Firebird application. They had to have the stud holes drilled out from 1/2" to 7/16" to fit. Back spacing was less. No problem at the front but to use 305-section wide tires I had to use 1" spacers in the back to prevent rubbing on the inner wheelhouses.

You should not have the above issues. But be advised that new Subs have metric studs and lug nuts. I THINK the change-over was after '96. If the holes in the wheels are even slightly larger than the studs, the wheels can move around over time and eventually cut through the studs, suddenly giving you a three-wheeler truck on the interstate.

Just confirm with someone who has already done this swap that everything is compatible for the long term.

Thanks for the response, especially about the studs and lugs and play in the holes - I'll be watching for all these issues. I may have the dealer that I'm getting the new 17" setup from, perform the change-over and the front-end alignment, just to make sure nothing goes bad....
