just trying to sow a few ideas so bare with me while i rattle on for a bit.
Ok, if any of you are anything like me, then fastest lap times will have come across your mind at some time and the next thought would undoubtedly be about how yours compares to others.
so.... how about we go about trying to sort out some sort of lap time records for the more popular cars?
First things first, the biggest problem I can see is that obviously the fastest times would/should be set by those with the most power/bits added, which is why i suggested a COMPLETE set of records for the cars people use the most.
i.e NSX, RX-7, 300ZX, Skyline(s), Supras, insert car of choice.
seeing as there aren't really that many mods in the game it shouldn't be too hard to draw up some kind of table, with enough slots for stock cars, cars with stage 1-4 turbo/na tuning, or whatever needs be, especially seeing as most people would get certain things as "standard" anyway.
the other problem would be verification of said lap times but well, we're all honest folks here, right?
so how about it?
anyone wanna give this a go?
and any suggestions on how to actually organising/running it cos i would imagine the best way would be to have someone to be the "middleman" to accept entries and to edit/update the lap times.

I'll give it a shot. It might be easier if you make a table, and we can copy/paste it and mark the mods we have. ( just amn idea)

well.....
sometimes, we can only figure out these things when we just dive right in and give it a go.
I'm going to be at home tonight watching the world cup final so i'll have a couple of hours to spare to put in a few fast laps.
that way, i can see what kind of tabling would work best.
if you have any lap-times, shoot me a PM with them and what mods are on the car and I'll see about how to best do this, or if it would even work at all.
the thing i'm trying to avoid, is a page with just text and spaces because that makes it hard(er) to read quickly and easily.

ok....
at the moment, i am juggling around with some sort of tabling in excel to see if i can get some sort of order to this thing.
i think it would be best if you send me a full screen shot of the times (via pm) and i'll put it onto the table and see how it goes.
i should a test version of it up later today/tonight.
in the mean time, please be patient and like i said, shoot me a pm with your lap times and i'll add them to the table/s.

don't worry about it too much.
at the moment, i'm still in the planning stages of how to organise this.
just to clarify.
i'm not intending this to purely be about the fastest lap times.
instead, I'm more wanting to see what you can do with certain cars on certain tracks.
i.e you posted a time in a supra on the n'ring.
what i'm after now, is for other people to take the exact same car with the exact same mods and see what they can do on the n'ring themselves.
the variables are adjustable (gearing, suspension etc etc) but the mods themselves are to be the same.
so it's more of a competition between "drivers" than simply the more powerful car.
i've done a couple of laps in my "standard" track learning car; the good old honda NSX and tabled it to see about a layout so you can have a better idea of what i'm after.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/158486GT4_TT_01.JPG
i think i've missed out a couple of extras that need to be noted but can't think of them right now.
anyway.
so there's now three lap times with a nsx type-r.
now it's your turn to go and take an nsx type-r and mod it to be the same and see what kind of lap times you can pull out on those tracks.
edit:
as before, if you've got a lap time in a car that you're proud of and waht to see how it stands against other people's times in the EXACT same car, shoot me a PM with the details and I'll table it and post it here properly.

what are your abbreviations for tires? r/q? im guessing racing but what is the q for?
and the r/m is racing medium id guess.
and we should have whatever setting we want on the TCS/ASM, because 99 times out of 100 im faster with it all set on 0

r/q is the qualifying tyres.. i.e super super soft.
and yes, asm and tcs controls are up to the player because to a degree, whether or not you need them is down to how you play the game.
i just had it tabled because i think it would be interesting to see what kind of settings people use. like i said, I just picked a car and two tracks to put up a couple of laps, then I noted the settings just to see how it would look in a table.
it's all up for change if need be.
hmm...
i guess this points out that there should be some sort of short rules list.
As always, PM me if you want me list a new set of times and settings and post here if you have any questions/suggestions about this.
When it's all sorted out, I'll make a proper thread for the times/tables.
by the way
i was setting about tabling the time for the supra on the nordschliefe and wasn't sure about the HKS turbos and springs.
are they different to the normal ones in the factory mods?

how does this look?
http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/158486GT4_TT_02.JPG
ok.
right now, i am thinking that i should list the final tables in a new thread, with a new post in the thread for each track.
that way, it'd be easier to look for a particular track and then I could just update the tables when needed.
how does that sound?

The tires will improve your time drastically. Try it again with sport tires medium and see what time you get. It's a bit more difficult but yeah.
