I'm hearing about cars on the dragstrip reaching speed trap and that it seriously cramps their time. What is speed trap?

speed trap is the end of the 1/4 mile. That is where the final speed is calculated for the 1/4 mile run.
In general, its a good idea to get through the speed trap :icon16:
What you might have overheard, was racers talking about their speed through the speed trap. Much debate can be generated by comparing 1/4 mile time vs speed.

They could also be bracket racers who overshot their time.
