No you cant polish a turd, but he's basically right about the performance. A SHO is comprable to a SL on the street. Sure it looks like (and is) a family car, but its got some balls to it.

a 89 ford taurus sho goes 0-60 in 6.6 and runs the 1/4 mile in 15.2
a 92 3000gt goes 0-60 in 6.9 and runs the 1/4 mile in 15.8
considering how much nore weight the taurus is than the 3000gt it is
impressive also they not only put a bigger motor in but the sho has different tierods ect for better handeling the 3 reasons more people dont modify sho's are because 1. preformance parts are hard to find and are exspensive 2. looks - fast 4 doors arent very popular now 3. the sho is a rare car to find
sho's may also be built better besause they do run for alot more miles than 3000gt's without problems
reall the only thing the 3000gt has over the sho's is looks
if you were to ask me the sho is sort of like a modern day muscle car
i like bolth of these cars alot and i think i may buy a 3000gt to modify
but the sho is a very fast car and may even beat some of your 3000gt's in a race and its not even in your class

Yes you are correct in that the sho taurus is a performance vehicle.
It is designed to be just that.
Ford designed it as you say, a semi muscle car, which means it comes from ford somewhat modified.
The 3000gt is not modified at all.
With minor modifications you can knock that 6.9 sec 0-60 time down to about 6.0 or 6.2 or in some cases below that, in many cases below that.
You can knock the Quarter mile time down to the 14's even the low 14's.
which of course blows the taurus' doors off.
Id also be hard pressed to say that the SHO will handle better than a GT since the center of gravity is much higher, but here again with minor mods the GT will outclass the taurus day in and day out as handling capacity goes.

This is not uncommon if you maintain your engine properly.

I probably know twice as many 3/s cars with less than half the miles that run like pintos. Realiability depends on the owner. I'd say with more normal driving (not constant racing), your Taurus will outlast the 3/s almost every time.

it basically a different car its not just the same motor with modifications ford got a motor built buy yamaha and a different trans. it has no modifications either. if you gave 5,000$ to a 3000gt owner and 5000$ to a sho owner to do all the mods they can the 3000gt would win because mods are cheeper if you do all the same modifications as you can do to a 3000gt with a sho you (may have to search around more for parts or customly build the parts to fit the sho) but with the same modifications on bolth the cars to put out the sameamount of extra hp the sho would still be faster. i never said the sho handeled better i was just sayin ford did more them just replaise the motor to make it fast it also has handeling upgrades - there may not be anymore things you can do to make the handeling better so the 3000gt will probobly win there eventualy. but if you put the same mods in bolth cars the sho would win im shure you can get sho's down past 13 seconds but why? you can probobly buy a different car put the same mods in it and still have money to spare with what you would of spent with the sho. but if you do modify a sho you would have an original car much more origanal than the 3000gts the toyota supras the honda preludes because right now everyone is doing that. in my opinion its a waist to modify shos but you still should give them credit for how fast they go- you cant polish a turd but u can make a turd go faster than a 3000gt

You ask why get a SHO for racing. While that may be a valid question... I'd start a little lower on the food chain.

Ask the people with '85 Civic DXs (100k+, probably at about 80HP by that time) with fart pipes and crappy mtx subs pretending to bump.... ask them why they come and rev their engines at me when I'm on a 9 sec bike. That my friend, is stupidity at it's finest.

i agree with you i would much rather modify a sho than a 85 honda 1st cuz there faster and 2nd cuz everybody has hondas thats all i see i would much rather have a sho all i was sayin is that by me no one sells sho preformance parts so you would have to get really expensive parts off the internet so you could use your money in a better way with a diff. car
