the ignition lock cylinder on my '91 318is turns only with difficulty, at times turns with the key only partially inserted, and will not turn fully to the start position. how difficult is it to replace with an aftermarket cylinder? can the cylinder be removed/replaced without removing the steering column? or is it off to the dealer for an expensive service bill?

well i think u can take it apart but u might have to take the steering wheel off,I don't think its all that expensive for a cylinder lock but putting them in and taking tem out requires a lil playing with the key i believe turning the tumbler just right taking on apart ain't too bad but i can't really say cuz ur car is a lil older than i'm accustom to but that may mean its easier but if i was u i'd take it to a person that works on BMW's or the dealer being u have to mess with the tumbler and all that may be a lil tricky.Hope i helped some.
