General question..

The other day I was in Checkers buying some replacement lightbulbs for my dome lights. The dome light was so old that whatever adhesive held the metal to the plastic had gone to a powder, and fell apart.

So this kid I know is working there, he would not shut up about his damned Ford Bronco that hes putting a 351 into. He talked and talked about his Bronco for about an hour and a half, I was to the point of killing him to get him to shut up.

One interesting thing he told me was that Nissan is auctually owned by Ford. Now, I know Ford owns Mercury, Jaguar, Mazda, etc. But do they really own Nissan? I wouldnt think that one of Japans leading car manufacturers (sp?) would be owned by a company like Ford.

Don't want nonnathat! Bad stuff!

Anyhew, Nissan's owned by Renault.

Go tell him to :flipa: !!!

LMAO! Latest Nissan News! Ford buys and now owns Nissan! Ford redesigns the new Nissan 300Z. It is a front wheel drive Mazda 626 with a Ford Zetec 2.0 and a oversized Nissan logo. Ford added an all aluminum removeable cargo extension on the back of the hatch so you can tote your bikes in it and it'll hold a standard load of 2X4 wood planks as well as yer dog. All while maintaining the 2+2 seating arrangement. Woohoo! Oh wait that's the new Ford full size extended cab, 4 door, shortbed truck.

Enough already! I'll shut up now!

One thing is true though. Ford and Nissan are in a joint venture with the production of the Mercury Venture and Nissan Quest. They are practically identical vehicles with minor differences to identify them differently between the two manufactures badges.

Maybe that is why he assumed Ford owned Nissan. Oh well!

you forgot Volvo too.

and for the record, Nissan is still self owned, but Renault owns a 36% stake in them. and they gave Nissan their CEO who has really turned things around. they will start sharing platforms though, because it saves so much money.

as for Infiniti, its just a division of Nissan, not a separate company.

and you should go back to Checker and find that little homo with the bronco and laugh at him 1) for not knowing anything about his own car's company and 2) for wanting to put a 351 in a bronco and 3) just because

i think i know what the kid is talking about. i read an article in the newspaper or newweek, a few yrs back, that there were plans to sell off nissan, and ford was interested in buying. in the end, the deal didn't go through. the article also talked about how shameful the management felt for having to sell off nissan and blah...blah..blah.
that kid probably didn't get the complete story on the subject.

No company is self owned, but I think you meant independant. The answer to that is no. The laws in Japan are such that it only takes a 34% stake to possess controlling interest in a Japanese company. It may seem a little strange, but that's the way it is.

So, Renault indeed holds the controlling interest in Nissan.

Yes they do, in fact, as Renault is re-entering next year in F1(officially like a team) they were planning to put their engines on others car (besides benneton(renault next year) team) and badge them as Nissan. I think this deal is off.

and they gave Nissan their CEO who has really turned things around

That is new to me, that must be why the new primera is soooooo ugly, it's the same desing as the Renault Megane.
