Help Me Please!!!!!!

All that fricking money I put into my car and it's DYING. It may only be the transmission but I'll explain it.
All of a sudden, from perfect driving conditions and some mild revving, the Iroc-Z's acceleration sucks and it won't shift to 2nd gear. I dropped it into 2 and it ran the same way. I'd think it's only the tranny BUT it's very slow in gaining rpms to the shift point and the fastest I could get was 40mph (really sounded like it was gonna blow). It came out of nowhere. Help Please!!

what does the fluid look like?

Umm, now that I think about it, what's been going on with the "overrevving" and manual shifting issue?

I didn't do anything we were talking about in my last thread, BUT I did shift into 2 to see if the gearbox was working.
The ATF showed a brown color and it smelled burnt.

flush the fluid and put a new filter in the tranny and i bet it will be fine after that. There is probly some grid stopping the clutches.

Alright I'll do that asap and drive my nissan for now. So it's true that the transmission has a alot to do with the acceleration.

Of course, its the middle man in transferring power from the engine to the wheels. Bad transfer of power means no power to the wheels.

We changed the filter and the fluid, correctly and bit by bit till full. Took it for a spin and
it's the same as before. Brown fluid now red, and old tranny filter brand new, and NO CHANGE.

i agree with him, if that is not it, it is probly to late to save the tranny, you will have to get it rebuilt. So how much you want for the car???LOL

Yeah this is no joke. I gotta get rid of it now. I just don't understand after all that work the tranny blew. Is there a chance the fluid needed more time to seep into the gears because we only drove it once after we finished.

you can try to put some lucas tranny stuff in it and let it set in there and see what happens. but chances are that it is done if it was burnt fluid then there was not lubercants in there and it probly burnt up.

transmissions suck. my firebird did the exact thing, except it would redline instead of not rev, at least your bands arent fried.. if anything it sounds like your valve body is fucked up...
before you give up, go under your car, take apart the bottom off of the trans..theres gonna be lots of sensors and wires in the trans fluid.. (drop the trans pan)
then theres about 10-12 bolts holding the valve body to the bottom of the trans... theres also these little balls..called check balls..that help route the trans lines, dont lose those/lose where they go, they're important.. check the valve body for any crap..the valve body basically looks like a lot of groves engraved into a solid metal chunk..it leads the trans fluids from one thing to the next, causing you to shift, etc etc.. make sure all the cables work..all the little piston looking things move.. (They adjust your upshift/downshift depending on throttle, rpm, etc).. if all else fails, then take it to the shop..hell, if youre gonna spend good money/throw the car away..take it apart at least once. =D
if i can find the online manual i used to check my trans, ill give you the link...it was really old tho, maybe a year or so ago..and it was a german link, pdf file of the trans..

oh, theres also three cylinders stuck to the trans, one outside the valve body, two inside.. those are the resivours for the trans fluid..make sure the springs inside them arent broken.. out of the two 700R4s i took apart, both of the 1-2 shift resivour springs were broken.. after i changed it, it shifted a LOT harder..

thats a thread that has someone who has the full manual..you'll need it. especially if youre gonna take off the valvebody like i suggested...those damn check balls are annoying. email one of them and ask them for it!
oh, btw, if you do..hold the checkballs in place w. petroleum jelly..when youre re-attaching the valve body..
a LOT less swearing and finger/knuckle/elbow busting.

Okay, I want you guys to think hard on this one. I tested it today, it shifts fine for about 5 minutes, then it gets worse and worse, it shifts into 2 and that's about it then if you push it harder enough it might shift hard into 3. Is it the valvebody? What part of the valve body or anything else it could be. I really do not want to part out this damn car because everything else works. When I take off the tranny pan what defects should I be looking for?

ya sound like the valve body, but how hot is the car after running it for 5 min?

I can't tell for sure, the dash gauge is screwy but when I got back it was 220. The first time after the tranny flush it got to 260 but it was definitely cooler this time. I got out and felt the middle of the hood.

when you said it sounded like it was going to blow what did you mean? and if you are going to drop the trans pan, make sure you have the manual, the defects youre looking for are just metal shavings blocking the grooves or the little plungers all jammed up.. also check if theres metal shavings all over the place..if there is, go get the trans overhauled..it will be less then a grand..and itll be worth it, since you put so much into the car already.

I have to cut my losses, I'll look at the transmission to see what I can do but I'm not pouring money into it anymore. Like rally and everyone said, that's money i'm readily losingly. It was just under 2grand, I put 3000 into it, and I just want that 3000 back now. DAMNTRANNY

IF the trans is gone, you can get one for proactically nothing with some shoping around.

I got the tranny pan off by myself. You know that small lip of plastic in the front? Because of that, I had a hell of a mess I cleaned up. While that's drying and the tranny is dripping, I'm taking a break. I'm going to start by looking at the valve body diagram.
