Poor acceleration 98 Caravan

Hello guys, here again.
My 98 Caravan started giving me some trouble. When I step on the gas it does not respond with power.
If I slowly de-accelerate, it responds. Sometimes as I am accelerating it shakes quite a bit and then it stabilizes itself.
When I turn the A/C off it runs great!? Any ideas anyone?
Thanks

Sounds like the compressor may be starting to seize up so when you run the Ac or defroster it is putting such a load on the engine it doesn't respond or it could be as simple as a worn belt and the belt is slipping.

Thank you for the advice vipergg, I checked the compressor and the belts and everything seems in order. This morning however, in addition to the initial lack of power at start, I heard a couple of small explosions from underneath and, I thought, towards the muffler.
Has anyone experienced similar situations?
Thank you

if you take it to a place like autozone, they will test it for codes ,no charge. It could be a leaking injecter or missfire somewhere, is the check engine light on? Scanning for codes will point us in the right direction.

the explosions you hear I think would be raw unburned fuel hitting the cat convertor then igniting.
