I've been reading alot lately about a posible RWD sedan in the pontiac lineup like 08' or 09'. I think this would awsome.

What do you guys think , Will it happen? What will it look like, and most importantly, do we still get the 3.8L?

I think it totally depends on how much the final net weight the car is.

Regretfully, the 3800 is scrapped as of 08-09. My dad works at the plant that produces this awesome powerplant here in Flint, MI and they're closing her up after the 09 model year (unless of course they fing out the new 3.6 and 3.9 liter replacements are big turds like the 3.4 DOHC, 3.5 and every other engine GM has tried to replace the 3800 with)

The 3.8 must be costing too much to build. Why else would they can it.

What a sad end to a terrific motor, if only they would bring a turbo 3.8 in the new car(Like everybodys favorite Grand National) i'd take that over a V8 any day

I'll take the torque of a supercharger over the high rpm power of a turbo anyday (not taking anything away from the AWESOME Grand National and GNX mind you). Could you imagine the GTP engine in the Solstice? Slap a 6 speed behind it and I'd make my kids ride in the trunk. They're young and flexible, they don't need their own seats!!!! As far as expense goes, the tooling has long been paid for. Consumers want roomy-zoom-zoom multivalves and overhead cams, even with their crappy reliability. The WOW factor is the doom of the 3800, not it's cost, reliabilty, fuel economy or any other real world factor.

Some of the rental cars I get have those whiny motors in them. I don’t see the allure there. On Top Gear when they reviewed the Honda S2000, they complained that the car wasn’t fun to drive unless it was on a track. Because (more or less) the motor had to scream to have any fun with it. That would be a bummer.
