2002 Civic cluster problems...

Hey guys,

I have a 2002 civic LX and my cluster for the longest time has been retarded. It shows 888888 in the mileage, the guages sometimes don't work, flickers the lights etc... I did buy a used cluster off Ebay and tried it and it worked perfectly every time so I know it is definately the cluster and not something else.

Tonight off a whim we decided to wiggle the connector and make it work and drive a few miles (6 round trip) and see if it was recording miles while in that 888888 mode. To our surprise it wasn't recording any miles (been like this for a while now). So now we know the cluster needs to be replaced........and probably by Honda so I can get a sticker that shows the real mileage but there's my problem. Is there a way that Honda can tap into the ECU and get the correct mileage or whatever the cluster says it what goes? I'd like to make this legal and legit. I know I could just use the used one that I bought OR get a new one off a Honda part's site but for resale value if/when I sell it I'd like it to be right.

Just curious if Honda can get the real mileage out of the ECU/ECM and go from there.

Thanks for the help in advance,
Chris

I am not trying to be an ass or anything, but what about the used cluster that you bought off ebay? Does that cluster display proper mileage when you plug it in? If so what's wrong with using that one?
