well im set up to buy a car it will most likely be a month or so but i am going to buy a car.

anyways ive decided i want a 97 gsx...................BUT

ive had TONS of people tell me not to buy one.ive even had one guy tell me to buy a gst becuase awd suck and are crankwalkers and slow.i didnt think being awd would matter but he actualy got fighting mad at me.

so do you guys think if i had the chance to buy the car should i.money isnt the issue.its paying for something that will blow in a month is whats everyone is telling me.

and yes i know im asking a bunch of dsmers if i should buy a dsm but i guess i need a little reasurance that im not buying a car that i will be rebuilding once a year.

and im very easy on cars i baby everthing i own

thanks for the help

You will be more happy with the GSX. The crankwalk issue happens to about 2% of cars and gst's are definitely not exempt. The issue isn't so much with the AWD as the clutch. Bigger the clutch more pressure on the crank= crankwalking. Its a beautiful car and if you want to be able to beat anything from a stop with more than 250whp you will be so thankful you have awd. And gst have a speed limiter at like 120mph I think. tisk tisk.

Go with a GSX with a 6-bolt engine. 7 bolt engine will have a problem with crank walk. AWD turbo is the shit. If you've ever driven one, you know what i'm talking about. I'm a 420a N/A kinda guy, but Im oging to get a GSX for my next project car.

DSMs will take money. Find one that is not beat up, abused, or modded. Look for older people who drove it. Kids beat the hell out of them and you don't want that. DSMs do cost money. Just a thought to leave on. Good luck

It doesn't matter whether its a GST or a GSX, both will still be prone to crankwalk. Usually they crankwalk around 30-50k miles I've heard, so if its past that it should be safe. Of course if you add a heavier clutch (like me) you could still find crankwalk to be an issue in the future. I added my heavier clutch at about 90k miles and at 105k it crankwalked. Other than that it never had any problems though. You could do the 6 bolt swap though if it does happen. Its really not that bad swapping em out and rewiring a few little things to make it work.

Go punch that guy in the balls. FWD is definately not less prone to CW than AWD and they are definately not slow. Sure, they are slower on the high way, but you would be able to bone anything off the line. GST's are limited to 137, GSX's arent limited at all. I think I remember someone saying they got thier stock 1g AWD to like 150. I say go AWD, you will not regret it.

:1: Just get it. Any "sports" car you get will likely have been flogged within an inch of it's life anyway. That's what they are made for IMO. Crankwalk is a good excuse to do a 6 bolt swap.:2cents:

well thank you every one

its kinda like right befor you do a realy stupid stunt.

if you have time to think about it and enough people tellin you not to do it.you'll have second thoughts

but if you do it right away it'll be fine

i think that guy talking about it being slow and crankwalking is what got me.all the other people that were preaching didnt but he is a mechanic.he was telling me that gsx's are the reason he's still in buisness becuase he did one a month but i thought that was funny becuase i only know of one in my area

anyways i will check out this dealership in alabama they keep them in stock

so we'll see what happens (fingers crossed)

Remember boy's and girls, just because someone is a professional mechanic (or any other profession), does not mean they are any good or that they know what they are talking about. The word professional only means a person is being paid to do what they are doing. :icon16:

You should kick that mechanic in the nuts next time you see him, and if your car ever breaks down, I wouldn't bring it to him because he probably knows NOTHING about DSM's after reading what he told you. If you're interested in looks, speed, and want to learn alot about your car, a DSM is the way to go, whether it be AWD or not. Hell, it doesn't even have to be a turbo. But AWD definitely owns all.

Never heard words so true. I had two cock faces tell me 17's wouldnt fit on my Cavy and fuckin laughed at me while I tried to explain myself. Well, theres 17's on it now isnt there? I almost burnt the rest of my stock tires off in their parking lot but I figured I should save my clutch. Then the chuckle head that put in my moms tranny. It doesnt work either. I dont know, I have a huge problem with mechanics, machinists, and parts stores. Seems to me that no one really knows whats going on and I dont trust my shit with anyone anymore.

vwracer: PLEASE stop spacing your shit out like that, you have no idea how annoying that is.
