I know this question is lame, but I can't see and I need help... Trying to replace the starter on my 94 SHO, the front bolt appears to be similar to the security nut on the lug bolt, all round and needing either an allen key or other tool to get it off. Does anyone know what I need to do to get this thing off ? I feel like an idiot, changed starters on my explorer all the time, never ran into this. Thanks a ton for the help,
Ian

A lot of Fords used torx head cap screws. If you can provide a picture, we maybe able to tell you what you need.

I changed the starter on my '93 SHO ATX in a parking lot, I don't remember needing any tools other than a socket wrench and assorted 6-point hex sockets. I also had a combination wrench to disconnect the battery. Unfortunately I don't still have the car to go look at what it really does take, but I don't recall anything special.
I do recall though that there are Torx cap head screws that hold the bendix to the starter motor. For whatever reason, the rebuilt starter had the wrong size gear on it so I had to swap the shaft out before installing.
Are you sure you're trying to remove the mounting bolt rather than one of the smaller screws that hold the starter together?
