Cavalier Pulls to the Right ?

Hello !

I have a 1996 Cavalier and when you put the brakes on you have to make a
correction with the steering wheel to the right. I've put new pads and
rotors on it, the calipers aren't frozen.

When my daughter drives in the driveway and applies the brakes you can see
the right wheel toe in little and I guess that is why you have to steer
right to correct for that.

When you lift the car and hold the wheel you can feel a little slack when
you rock it horizontially. It's not the rod end. The other side doesn't
have as much slack?

Anyone have this issue ? Is there an adjustment in there steering gear unit
?

Thanks &

there is a preload bearing failure with that car take it to the dealer its a recall they will fix it for free you may want to call your local dealer with the vin # to see if there is any open campaigns on your particular car first

but i highly dout it has any thing to do with the pulling prob. sounds like you got a restricted caliper hose

Sounds like the bearings to me, how's it ride at highway speeds? Any grumbly humming noise from the wheel area?

Hi !

It runs good, no vibration, no other difficulties except when you apply the brakes you have to slightly turn the wheel to the right ?

Hi !

Thanks for the help, I did look at the lines, some usual cracking but nothing visual from the outside indicating that there would be an obstruction. I know this sound as a feasible possibility and I will probably end up changing the lines. I'm kinda hoping some one has had the same experience so I don't have just keep changing parts till the problem goes away.

Hello Everyone !

FYI !

I took my car to Midas for a second opinion, they are a bunch of crooks. They wanted to change all my brake parts front an rear, they said my car was overheating because the temp gauge is just over half, didn't ask the last time the trany fluid was changed but just put that on the quote and never answered my question of what the pulling problem is.

Anyway I have systematically changed the pad and rotors, still pulls
I changed the brake hoses, still pulls
I changed the calipers, still pulls

Any ideas now ?

I have a 1997 cavalier that had the same steering correction requirement. I traced the problem to the rear lower control arm bushing. It cost about $20 Canadian and 1 1/2 hr labour to install. It requires a bit of strain to move by hand but a visual inspection (cracker rubber base) can usually determine if it is gone. It is about 60mm in dia.

Hope this helps

Hello Barnesd !

You were right ! It was the rear lower control arm bushing ! Changed it this afternoon all is good again ! Thanks vary much for taking the time to post !

Midas wanted to change all my brakes and lines and that wouldn't have solved the problem, they are a bunch of crooks if you ask me. When I go to national shop I wouldn't expect them to keep changing part by trial and error till it gets fixed.

Thanks again for taking the time to post !

sometimes we look to hard at a car and think a normal condition is a problem, do know anyone with same car if so see if thers does the same dont just ask em, get in and try it. like i said your honed in to the car and you may sometimes convince your self somethings not right when its normal. i am not saying you dont have an issue i am just saying dont chase your tail unless your sure there is trouble
