i'd just like to share this with u fellow modellers, unm, yeah
Theres only one model shop where i live, and they dont sell any japanese cars (wich is what i'd like to build) at all, I at least, haven't seen any.
They have mostly AMT and Revell kits, and very few tamiya car kits and no Fujimi, Aoshima or Hasegawa kits at all, they have a very limited choice of supplies, no epoxy putty for example, they dont have all colours i want in stock, they only have two airbrushes to choose from and they do not order kits if u ask them to since they dont have "licence" to do so.
IMHO that fucken sucks.
It is very hard for me to get into this hobby because i am young and i do not have a credit card, i cant order off the internet, my mom and dad are both refusing to do it for me. Modelling isn't very fun if u cant build kits of cars u like.

When I was young, I had the same frustration. Or, I can say, everyone would have to certain extent. This situation won't last forever, but the basic skills you gain in this period will. So, practice with AMT and Revell, and by the time you can buy what you want, you'll have a skill to turn it into a piece of artwork.

yes, ive been thinking of that too and its good idea on theory.
a few glitches tho, the kits here are very and i mean VERY expensive, some cost as much as 25$ and im not all for the idea of paying that much money for kits i don't enjoy building until im old enough to have my own credit card, i figure there are better things to put my money on, prices for paints and other supplies are high too, they can do this since theyre the only big shop around here..
well I guess theres nothing i can do, maybe i should wait until someone around here starts selling the kits i want or just wait til i get my hands on a card
I could buy the cheaper kits of course but they aint much fun since i theyre cars i dont know of lol

What's wrong with building a car you've never seen before? You'll only learn about it, and any practice is good practice.

$25 in Swedish money? How much would that be in American money? AMT/Revell kits only cost $10-12 US.

The "$" prety much always, unless noted otherwise, indicates USD.

Ok, not to be the "old grumpy guy", but when I was young we didn't have internet and stuff like that and you were really STUCK with what was at the local shop.
Anyway, maybe you can get money orders? I mean, they're like 75 cents at most banks, and they're just as good as cash. I'm just tryin' to give you an idea of how to get over your problem.
Peace.

I have no models shops near me, the closest good shop is a 1 hour 45 minute train trip away, there is another that is only about 1 hour 20 minutes but they rip you off!

i can see i'm not alone :dogpile: not that i thought I would be lol.. its sad that modellers cant build the models they want to tho..
well theres only a year (i think) b4 i can get a credit card of my own so i'll have to wait.
and yes, those 25 were USD, the tamiya kits cost like 250SEK wich is about 25$ AMT and Revell kits are a bit cheaper so maybe 200 - 230SEK wich would be 20 - 23$
a bottle of glue is like 7$, should it really be that expensive? thats like half the price of a whole kit (when priced normally)
well, ive got most of the supplies to start building so i guess ill go over there some day and buy a cheap kit. :licker:

None of you should really be compaining because in Malaysia where I come from, model kits cost an arm and a leg. The CLK-GTR kit by Tamiya costs RM120 (that's 120 malaysian ringgit). And considering we earn dollar-for-dollar to you guys wherever you are, we pay like 5 to 6 times as much for a flamin' model kit. A tamiya rattle can costs like 30 ringgit. Modelling is NOT affordable in Malaysia.
Luckily, I'm studying in Australia now so things are much much cheaper here in comparison. :D :D :D

Oh, my bad.
Anyway, I don't think anyone should FORCE you to do a kit you don't like, even if it's for "practice". It has a greater chance of turning you off for good from the hobby than actually giving you any useful skills.

$ doesn't always represent American dollars, it also represents the Australia Dollar. Which is worth about 54 cents of the US dollar (a pain in the A** when ordering from America. I use money orders instead of credit cards (Im 13) and for a International Money order, it puts me up for about $9AUS. Revell Kits cost about $25 here, and Tamiya costs about $40- $50. So I very rarely buy Tamiya kits (but I have been working on the Revell ITR for about 5 months now). I have picked up some Tamiya kits for $10 which was great but I still havent gotten around to building them yet  . The ITR has been taking up alot of my time (serious mods).
Sorry for getting off topic, but it has been a while since I've posted here.
P.S: Pics of the ITR up soon!

Hey,
I am really astonished to read that you have only one hobby shop in Stockholm, a so big city ! Are you sure ? Try to ask to the IPMS Stockholm forum : here is the address http://www.ipmsstockholm.org/
By the way, if I were you, I would ask the kit that you can't get as gift for christmas or your brithday to your parent, so they would bo okay to order them online with their CC !
Hope you'll find a solution !
Cheers,
