Hi all: I have an '01 4.7 club cab 4x4 and every now and then my front brakes get really hot and the steering shimmies. Some say I should replace the master cylinder, but it only happens when I run the A/C, so I think it's some electrical gremlin. Anybody out there run into anything like this? Thanks--Jock

Not sure if it's the same thing or not but my 01 dakota 4x4 front calipers "stick" sometimes. The brakes will stay locked halfway on so the truck will barely go and they get very hot. This only happens after driving in city traffic. I can pull the calipers and clean and lube the pins every 6 months and it seems to help with this. It has only happened once when I was driving and it felt like I could feel the anti-lock brakes pulsing as I was driving and never touched the pedal ?

Usually on disc brakes the shimmying is from a warped rotor (hot rotor, splash thru water)hot metal + water = warped metal)
Check your back brakes (especialy if they are drums) they may not be engaging well enough which leads your vehicle to rely on the front disk brakes to stop you which means they will get very very hot very very fast
