Need A/C Help

I know how stupid I am, but it must be my age.
A year, or so, ago there was a noise coming from my A/C compressor. Since it was fall, I simply disconnected a wire somewhere (??) to keep the compressor from engaging when I ran the defroster. The problem is I can't remember what I disconnected. It is not the fuse, the relay, none of the connectors on the compessor, or the accumulator. I thought it might be a temp sensor, or some other sensor, but I can't seem to find what I did. I will really appreciate any help you may be able to provide.
Thanks

Start at the copresser clutch wiring and work back.
But if the compresser was making a noise last year it is going to make a noise this year.
