I’m sorry but this is lame. Yes I know the guy did a lot of work and yes it looks like he did a good job, but the fact is the 996 engine only makes 296 hp and 258 lb-ft. You can buy a stock GMC Savana with a 295 hp 335 lb-ft 5.3L V8.

Wrong. More like 450 hp. Plus, why would anyone want to put a freaking V8 into something like that?

Never mind I was thinking of the N/A 996.
GM and Ford have been building V8 powered vans since they started building vans and Dodge use to. They do it for the same reason you put a V8 in anything to make it faster. In fact you can buy a F-350 van with a 305 hp 6.8L V10.
When you see a full-size American van doing burnouts and powerslides like in the movie Old School that’s not movie magic they really can do that stuff.

Wow...
Your ignorance is astounding.
GM, Ford and Dodge didn't put V8s or V10s into Vans to make them faster, they're 6000lb vehicles. Their one duty on this planet is to move things around. Whether it's People or Boxes. They move them.
The source of their power isn't there to make them do donuts or slides, it's there to move heavy loads.
Now, go back in your corner and sit down, and I suggest you hush.

True the power isn’t there to do donuts or slides, but it is there to make them fast.
A van doesn’t need a V8 or V10 to move people and stuff, they need it so they can move people and stuff without being slow.
In Europe were painfully slow vehicles are normal most 5000-6000 lbs cargo van are powered by 150 hp diesels.
Dodge replaced there old American van with a euro van look at the specs:

Powerful full-size vans are an American thing.

I know the specs, I see them all over the place here in Southern California, they're not fast by any means, but the fact is Dodge mostly likely cancled the Ram Vans for the simple fact that they weren't getting the sales.
Ford and GM have that market covered, What those Mercedes-Benz vans have though are massive amounts of space. They're huge.
And the turbo diesel power plant moves them along nicely, and it probably gets decent fuel milege being a small, but potent turbo diesel.

Hmm hippie van on the rush...nice. Btw my german is quite rusty but i do belive they mentioned that engine to be Ruf tuned and that it put 500 something on a dyno.
Also those big engined american vans might be "quick" for their size but certainly not fast. yes they could be made fast with some serious mods as anything else, but those are rare enthusiasts sleepers.
however anything like that is hopelessly oudated nowadays considering modern gas prices. A nice gas conservative and large practical van like that rebadged benz van you posted is perfect for 2006. It just shows that Chrysler is smart enough to get in with the times and not post record loses like the other two.
