95 DX engine surges when in idle

My daughter's 95 Civic Dx surges badly when it is in idle. We just had it tuned up, changed the fuel filter and thermostat. The car runs fine once you get going; the problem is only when in idle.
Any simple solutions to this? Maybe something the mechanic may have left off?

Check for vacuum line leaks. It could also be your fast idle valve. They get stuck open alot.

Thanks for the reply. One question-I am not a much of a car guy-where is the fast idle valve?

Thanks for the quick response. Exactly where can I find the fast idle valve? I am pretty much of a novice.
Thanks!
Thanks!

That year Civic didn't have fast idle I don't think... Check the IACV (Intake Air Control Valve), which is located on the backside of the throttle body, it has coolant lines running into it.
But first, bleed the coolant, if there is any air in your coolant, when that air hits the IACV, you'll get a drop in RPM, then an increase. The bleeder is on the coolant neck on the front of the engine (Right where the top hose goes from the radiator, to the engine), I think the fitting's a 12mm, loosen that until coolant starts to come out, then close the fitting. If that doesn't fix it, buy another IACV, they're pretty cheap, just make sure you get a D-Series.
Good luck, let us know how it goes!
