I lost to a truck!

I was on the way home from work and I see some HIDs coming up fast behind me on the highway, then strobe lights when he gets right up on my ass and passes at the last minute. I see that its a pickup truck (chevy, 22" rims at least, and one of those crooked license plate mounts all the custom trucks have) but also that its an SS and the exhaust sounds freaking beautiful. So after a bit of hesitation, I decide to speed up to catch up to him and see what he's got... and needless to say... from about a 60 roll, I got the jump but after I heard his truck shift (auto or manual I'm not sure) he was like 3 cars on me by the time I was at 100... I was surprised, but he slowed down and as I passed he gave me a thumbs up sign, so at least he wasn't a dick about it. I was expecting him to be an asshole and yell out how slow my car is () judging by the way he almost hit me, and blinded me with the strobe lights before we raced... but he seemed cool enough afterwards. We stayed cruising next to each other for a few miles until my exit came up and I headed home. Oh well, just another loss for the slushbox sixer... :banghead:

i didnt know anyone here but me knew anything about mustang v6ers... cool stuff

nice race, sounds like your pretty down to earth about your car. it would be nice to have another reasonable mustang owner in here.

also yeah the autos definatly slow em down quite a bit. but heck also i say if u can afford boost then go for it, i for one cant lol. with a nice turbo set up you could see 275whp on stock internals np.

Nice loss man. And Stan00, I'm reasonable Mustang driver......no? (until I get my car boosted...hopefullly). Right now I am driving a V6 Stang convertible (2002) with the ATX. Doubt I'll race it seeing as how its not mine. But never the less you seem pretty legit. Was it the SS Silverado?

Edit: I see in your sig it says 3.9L. Isn't it a 3.8l?

his year is a 3.9, hes a buddy of mine and I checked out his engine and whatnot and it says 3.9. I was suprised too.

Good loss as a first one here though.

lol yeah I'm positive its a 3.9L... the 2004 V6 Mustangs got a few small changes to the camshaft and the valve timing that allowed for the extra .1 liter and 6 cubic inches. Stock for stock its the same performance wise as all the other 99-03 3.8L Mustangs, but supposedly it takes better to mods... who knows. Oh, and you guys with V6 Mustangs should check out the forums over on 3.8mustang.com, good place. :)

And yes, I'm pretty sure it was the SS Silverado.

Rack up another one for fast trucks :ylsuper:

Good loss. SS' are low 15/high 14sec trucks and can be modded pretty easily, so no shame there.

Don't you guys know? The V6 Mustang is the next gotta have car. :)

Sounds like fun. Keep em coming.

Well then that makes perfect sense that I lost, seeing as most cars like mine run high 15s to mid 16s stock...

Keep the losses coming? I'd rather not. I think I'll go race an '89 Civic to make myself feel better now.

well maybe if he was running on his stock pcm...you could have passed him on top considering most trucks have a 100mph govenor.....btw have you guys seen the RSR silverado....

I figured I'd have in in top end for two reasons, 1. like you said, trucks have low speed governors, and 2. my aerodynamics > his trucks.... but I guess (as usual) modded V8s beat modded V6s...

heh i forgot about you, i mean your not supposed to be a mustang driver... :dunno:

like has been said, the displacement was slightly changed in 2004. the hp rating is actually rated 2hp higher at 195hp. from 01 to 03 it was 193hp. 99 and 00 were 190hp. the 01 to 03 were still 3.8l also, i forget what they did they gained 3 more hp. it was something minor though.

i dont know too much about v6 stangs, but ive ridden in one. the tranny really makes it slow. now if u were to hold the gears 1 and 2 in the tranny to about rev limiter, and switch b4 u hit, u can get a nice hard shift. idk, but it worked for my friend. he later sold the car and bought the exact same stang and year and all, but this was a 5 speed manual now.

btw, those rsr trucks look pretty sweet. did car and driver test out the srt-10 ram o w/e yet? cuz if they do and its not too expensive, turbocharging that thing would be mean. well, i/h/e alone would losen up sooo much power....

yeah have a manual tranny in those year stangs makes quite a difference.

If by "holding the gears" you mean for me to manually shift my auto (1-2-D) then you are crazy! Thats no good for the transmission, and while doing it a few times probably wont hurt it, my tranny would go to crap in no time if I did it often enough! :uhoh:

yeah auto's aren't meant to be powershifted,, putting the car into those gears manually is for hauling trailers and driving in the snow n' such. dunno who would use a stang or any other sports car to haul a trailer but you never know...

wouldn't shift kits help? you can do more manual shifting with a shift kit right?

I had a buddy back in highschool with a V6 stang (like the one blackstang has, but his was white), and he would use it to tow his jet ski to the lake. He was an uber mustang guy, so I could see it.

Meh, the only shift kits that are made for my transmission (Superior, or Trans-Go) are notorious for doing more harm than good. The best bet for me would be an SCT chip and a higher stall torque converter. I'm definitley doing the chip eventually, doubt I'll do the TC though...
