I need people to talk to about this... Some of you know that I went to ITT Tech for Multimedia and graduated with an Associates Degree... First of all I want to make it very clear that ITT sucks big hairy nads... Anyways... They made all these promises to help with job placement and showed me astonishing numbers of their students that get jobs after graduation and such... I have since found out that all the classes were a joke, only 3 of us in the class took it all seriously and nobody from my graduating class has a job yet... Including me. I am a fucking janitor... Yes, a janitor. I hate it and I want ITT to be destroyed. Not only am I making absolutly no money, but I have about 10k in student loans I am trying to pay back right now... :banghead:
Here's the current situation... A few weeks ago my grandfather that I was very close to suffered a massive heart attack and died at home. Oh lucky me, I just happened to be working at the hospital that morning when they brought him in. Yeah, just the way you wanna find that out. Needless to say I was off work for about a week. Lets top it all off with my highly insensitive , now ex, girlfriend... She said some things about it that pretty much blew me over the top and I packed up and moved back home. The reason I decided to come home was because ever since I had moved out, things at home got way better. So I came home and dealt with the girlfriend BS for about 2 weeks and then said the hell with it and I broke up with her... (just talked to her some today, I really miss her:frown: ) So, now I am single, a janitor, and in need of fixing my Talon which will take like 2 years to do as a janitor... Last night I came to a serious realization that I WANT to go back to college, but this time one that is completely focused on Film Animation... That is what I have wanted to do all along but ITT was more of a general touch of everything college... Not what I was expecting... So, I dropped it on my parents tonight that I wanted to go back to college again and get a real degree that I can use... Mom of course told me I HAVE to sell the Talon and get a brand new car. I was like umm, hell no? I bought the Talon, I fixed the Talon several times, and I pay for everything on it. Its here to stay... She told me there will be no college as long as the Talon stays... So I went to dad... He said theres no point in going for this "again" and ending up without a job still. I told him he doesn't realize that ITT didn't teach us shit and that I can't stay in this area if I want to get a real career for this... He closed his eyes and sat there ignoring me...
Great, I'm back to planet Bullshit... :frown:
So what the hell should I do guys? Should I sell the Talon in hopes of getting my mom to help me go back to school? Or should I say screw them all and do it on my own and show them whats up when I land an awesome job? I just don't know what I should do or where I should go... I've been looking online at colleges that specialize in Animation in different areas... One that I looked at was the Art Institute of (theres several locations, the closest to me in Pittsburg.) Has anyone heard of any specific schools that are really well known for Animation?...
I just don't wanna see the Talon go when I've put so much time, work, and money into it... :frown:

Hmm.. if it helps any, I am single, a delivery boy and I'm taking a year off school. First off, I like being single, I have a relation ship with my car(s), and if I want action, that's what parties are for, haha. I love delivering food to people.. you don't know how many interesting stories you hear at the doorstep. ..and last, I'm taking off a year from school.. so I can't travel across Canada. I felt that I've never really been anywhere but central Canada and the Rocky Mountains, but I haven't seen any of these "moose and loons and beavers" that Canada's supposed to be about, haha. Also, I'll be traveling to Japan in December. So you see, it's not all so bad, it's just how you look at things. I'm sorry to hear about your grandfather though :( By the way, I've also had my part in caretaking. I'm only 17 and I've done it for about two years now, and that's how I got my Eclipse.
From one DSMer to another, I say sell the car for education. Education can take you a lot further than a car can. In the future, you'll be able to afford another DSM if you want to. That's what I plan to do. At the age of 17, I can't afford licensing and insuring all of my vehicles (I also have a truck which was my first vehicle giving to me by my dad). My DSM is currently not plated and it's just sitting there, so unfortunately, it has to go (sometimes, when I feel very daring, I simply switch plates from my FC onto my Eclipse, but shhh :))
I've never liked my mom, honestly. She's bitchy and she never agrees with anything I say, but when I look back, I think about how much I like who I am now, and there's only her to thank. Listen to your parents, they know best. As for your dad, sometimes it's better if they stay out of the way, haha. Most of my automotive problems were caused by my dad :) but hey, it's only been a learning experience to me.
So simply, do what you want, like definitely get into film animation if you want to. An alumni from my school is actually a head animator for Pixar movies. Yes, from the shallow depths of Regina, (the city that rhymes with fun) someone actually has made a name for themselves and I plan to be the next. Just keep your head up, it's not the end of the world. Every disaster will only make success even sweeter

Yea I agree I hate to say it but you can always get another Talon. Sometimes there's just a higher calling. When you make enough money you can do whatever you want, but your not going to be able to do that on a janitors salary. Sorry about your grand dad I hope everytrhign works out for ya.

Man, what a pickle. Selling the car would be the best thing to do. But if my mom told me I would have to sell my eclipse to go to school, I'd be like, hell nah. But I don't know man.
BTW: I was wanting to go to ITT, but not anymore.

I don't really wanna sell it though guys... I mean, I really wanna go back to school and live my dream of working on movies and such. But I love my car so much... :( I guess I just wanna do both... Finish my car and go to school. I don't care if the car doesn't get done anytime soon. Heck, it wasn't gonna get done for like a year probably anyways...
Vanilla Gorilla, steer clear of ITT. None of the teachers or students took it seriously... I learned very little for the amount of money I have in that school... The teachers just didn't take the time to teach us all the little things we wanted to know. There were 3 of us who had great ideas and stories and such, but the teachers held us back. We tried working on projects outside of school but it was hard because there were some things we didn't know how to do and the teachers told us "we would never need to know how to do that." Hence the reason I hate them so much... They are fools. The entire entertainment industry is beginning to revolve around computer animation and I can clearly see that. How many movies DO NOT include some type of computer animation now? Very few... I have so many ideas for movies and projects that I started while at ITT, I just wanna finish them all... I wanna feel like I accomplished something during my life...

Wow dude, that sucks. I wouldnt do either. I would sell the Talon and not go to school. 2 student loans plus a new car loan = a shit ton of debt. You wont get a job straight out of school, I would give it another 6-8 months before you get worried about it.

There is a VERY VERY big difference between ITT and UTI. ITT is a "give us your money and we'll teach you a half-ass degree" sort of college and UTI is a very respectable technical institute, at least to my understanding anyways.
Anywho, I think your moms advice is completely out of left field, why would you want to buy a NEW car and have a car payment on top of your student loan payment, plus you'll be racking up bills from when you do go back to school. IMO, that's the worst advice a parent could give, that would completely overload you on the bills, especially working as a janitor and it would drive you into debt very quickly. I think you should explain to them your situation and what a new car payment would do to you on top of what you already owe, and if they still don't want to help, do it on your own bro, nothing could be sweeter than completely proving your parents wrong. Good luck on whatever you decide.

Thanks for the information. I've been thinking about UTI alot. I haven't really took the time to do too much reasearch about them, but I've been considering them as an option because there is one in my state and they teach what I want to learn. I've been thinking about body work and paint. I've always been into painting things. I don't know if the pay is good or not, but I really don't care too much. I just want to do something I love. I'm thinking about taking a course this year at a community college in body repair, then using what I learn combined with what I already know and doing all the needed body work on my Spyder. Then taking it to someone that I really trust and that I know does quality work and getting them to spray the car. That way I know that it is done right and that underneath all the pretty paint that my car isn't a big mud pie. After letting someone fix the passenger side of my car and paint it......I know I'm doing it myself next time.

Yeah, I've pretty much decided that now that I ordered all the motor internals that I'm gonna finish the whole car first. I will look more into all sorts of school and see what I can find and what the best one would be for me. I probably won't go back until next fall now at this rate... Oh well, at least I have a plan now.

Vanilla, if you like cars and are into bodywork and restoration and that kind of stuff, look into WyoTech. I have a good buddy that just got back from that just graduated from there on June 23rd and he loved it, now he's looking at a place where he'll start out making $60,000+ a year. Anywho, I was thinking about WyoTech before I decided on a 4 year university, but I would definitely recommend it. And yes, I do some bodywork and paint. I never went to school for it, I just sort of learned from haning out at our little bodyshop all the time. It's not as tough as it seems and it's a lot of fun. Not to brag or anything, but I think I'm pretty damn good at it for not going to school for it or anything, but if you're interested, I would definitely recommend looking into WyoTech.

What the hell are you smoking? WyoTech is one of the best automotive institutes out there today. Do you know anyone who has went there or do you just go by hear-say? I have a really close buddy who just got back from there and loved it. He said the instructors are awesome, the material is good, and the school overall is good. UTI isn't a bad school either, it's ITT that's getting all the negativity.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. That sucks when you've got 'rents working against you. Don't worry about the girl either. There are plenty of those around :).
I vote that you keep the DSM. My GSX was probably legitimately my first love :). I've got the new ride but it doesn't get the same appreciation that my GSX got. I'd say only sell it if you need cash quick but the car isn't going to get you any money if it doesn't work. I think you made a good decision to buy the parts to get it up and running.
About schooling, have you considered leaving the state to go to school? I know you said you wanted to do film but why do you want to stay in PA? When I think film, I think California or Florida where there are the big studios.
When I was getting close to graduating from high school, I wanted to go into computer programming. I went to Boston College because I liked the city and I figured there would be a lot of opportunity for jobs once I graduated. I ended up getting an accounting degree and couldn't have picked a better place for it. I had to take out tons of loans though. My parents helped a bit but when I finish up my masters degree at the end of July, I'll have well over $100k in loans. By being in a place where there was a lot of opportunity after I graduated, I landed a good job to handle my loans.
My point is that you might want to consider traveling somewhere else that is known to have lots of opportunities for film. The only reason I got my job was because I became friend with one of my professors who was in the industry. Check out some FL or Cali schools that specialize in film degrees and talk to the professors to make sure they aren't duds like you got at ITT.
A pretty cool school that is near my parents place in FL is Full Sail. I know they specialize in media-type education. Check it out... http://www.fullsail.com

Thanks for the link man. Yeah I'm actually in Ohio, but I just threw that school from PA out there as a starting point. I know there ain't shit up here in this area. I had considered FL, I just wish I knew some people down there... Oh well, I guess if I'm gonna do it then I need to just do it and get it started. At this rate it won't be until next fall now, but at least I'll have my car finished by then and a plan.
Also, I met a really awesome girl last night. I have known her for years and been friends with her but we had never actually "met." Gotta love the internet. lol  She could possibly be a keeper. I think I shall browse around some more though before jumping into any relationships.
Oh yeah, just to top the stress off. I said that my grandpa had died, well he had a heart attack when he was in his 50's and they almost lost him then and he was 82 here and he had another and didn't survive it. My dad is 51 and today we ended up taking him to the ER because we think he was having a heart attack. (All the males die from heart attacks on both sides of my family.) They admitted him overnight and are running a bunch of tests to see if it was and what else is wrong. I think they know something and aren't telling us yet because they are having some cardiac specialists come in tomorrow to look at him... :(
Things were going good but they are kind of sucking at the moment. Now its the waiting game to see what happens...

I'm sorry to hear. No rest for the weary I guess. It's a bit scary not knowing anyone and just moving away from home. I did that when I went to BC. Most of my friends stayed at home and went to local schools. It feels nice getting a fresh start though. Plus, you'll be going to school with a bunch of people interested in the same career so you have that common ground at least to build new friendships.

Thats true. When I went to ITT I met some of the friends I have now just because we were all interested in the same things. Of course we were the only 3 in the class that took any of it serious. lol
I was looking at this full sail school and it seems like a pretty good school. I was reading the lists os students and where they are working at now. Most of them are doing what I wanna be doing except for one little fact... They all work under somebody. I want to be at the top of the chain and be the guy that writes the movies and does the computer animation and such... lol Maybe I'm just dreaming but thats how I really wanna do it.

You're not dreaming, you're just skipping all the little stepping stones it takes to get there. You won't get into animation and start up at the top, you have to work your way up there, and with enough ambition, you'll eventually get where you want to go.

I know two guys who went to wyotech, they told me it was a bunch of rich snobs who go out there to race their daddy's cars on the highways, the teachers didnt want to teach they just wanted the people to come in and start building hot rods, no matter their prior knowledge. I have a friend right now who is also a member of these forums who can't get a job out in phoenix because no one will hire a UTI grad. I have an instructer who spoke personally with a UTI instructor and the course schedule is apparently half of what was required of me when i graduated with my automotive management degree. I'm not smoking anything i just hear the facts as their given and present them.

Blackcrow I know you posted this a while ago, but I've been gone and I just now read it. My girlfriend's siter is graduating from the Art Institute of Seattle this quarter. If you are thinking about going there, DO IT! That school is really well known and highly regarded. She does have to work very hard there though. Coming home at 9 pm after being at school the entire day is normal for her. But she has already worked on several projects, including a video game and an animation for a national park. She has already been hired too and should be making bank soon. I think it's pretty expensive to go there, more than my school at least (the University of Washington), but it'll pay for itself really quickly. You may even be able to transfer some of your classes from ITT. I don't know though.
And if you look into it there may be something you can do about the $ you wasted at ITT. Just research a lot and call people. You never know. I hit a 2X4 on the freeway that fell from a construction project that compltely screwed up my alignment. So I called them up and am filing a claim. So they're probably paying for it. It just doen't seem right for ITT to jack people like that so there must be something that can be done about it.

Yeah, there is a big thing that is going around about people who got screwed over by ITT and they are trying to get something going against them but I doubt it ever will. No where does it actually say that they guarentee us jobs. Which its like that with any school, but yeah... They half ass the help so bad its not even funny. The students nor teachers even took anything serious. Our one professor would always get mad at me and a few of my friends because we were actually trying to learn things ahead of the class that we weren't supposed to learn, but he was supposed to teach it to us. He just didn't feel like wasting his time with 3 kids when the other 37 were just jackin off to porn... Well, these 3 kids are gonna show that homo whats up when we're somethin big and we give no mention of him nor ITT. We all vowed to run the school down to everyone just because of the horrible experience we had there.
