i got a not so quick question for anyone

i have a 1987 honda accord dx with 118,000 miles on it and
yesterday i was driving and i stopped at a red light, and my car didnt start. well i sat there for a minute or 2 and managed to get it to turn over and i was able to drive home. looking at the engine the air filter container is full of oil and a greyish gunk. well im thinking oil in the air filter, hopefully just a pcv valve, so i replace it. it drives real well for about 20 minutes and then does the same thing when i slow down to exit the freeway. i notice the engine is real hot and i open the air filter again. well the air filter is actually partially melted. of course this cant be a good sign. im not to technical when it comes to cars so im lost at the moment. any ideas as to what the next step i should take?

go to www.3geez.com... someone there will have the answer... since you have a carb, and it has a heater that uses exhaust gasses, it might easily be that your exhaust system is not dumping out as much gas as it should, therefore diverting it to the heater via the exhaust manifold...

Its called "blow-by" when a engine gets miles on it or unusual ware the rings crack and cause the oil to get in to the top of the piston which in turn cause the oil to blow out the crank case breather which runs into the air box... THe reason it is greyish is the head gasket good be basd also which is letting a little water get into the oil...... TO cheat it until you can get it fixed find where the crank case breather is plugged into the air box.... unplug it put some tape over the hole in the air box.... Then take some garden hose or something and attach it to the crank case line and drop down so it runs out on the ground! I have done this before on a escort it worked file for a temp fix..... just make sure to keep a close watch on oil and water level..... try that and see if it works... It won't cost anything that way!!
