I have noticed that off and on my regal will not start. It has the vats or security chip in the key. I have found that if i let the car set any where from 10-15mins on average the car will start up everytime. Is there some sort of deal if the ingition read the ohms wrong in the key for some reason that it would lock the ingition system for a time delay or something? Just wondering if i should have my ingition switch replaced? Any one have this happen to them or know any one who has had this problem?

I had this problem once before. I had replaced the starter and ignition switch and still continued to happen. Turned out that it was the body control module. It is a small relay under the passenger dash. It is what recognizes your security sensor in your key. How I tested it was jumping the relay with a paperclip and the car started right up! The module controls whether or not fuel is fed to the engine, and if it doesn't recognize the key, it will not start. In some cases, after so many minutes, it will reset itself and allow the car to run properly. You might check that out and see if that works for ya!

thank you very much for the tip. Im getting the run around from dealers and auto shops and they all of course want a lot of money to change a lot of things. My question is when your car would not start (before) you jumpered the relay did the engine just not roll over or would it actuallly try to start. again thank you very very much for the reply!

I have called the dealer, and some auto parts stores and they have no clue what a body control module is? Can you help me out on this please. Thank you.

My 1995 Regal had the same problem. In my case, the problem seemed to be with the key. When I started using the spare key, which was never used, the problem went away. No starting issues now.

I tryed to use my spare once i seen that it would not start. Another person said to try the anti theft relay and i did that and over the weekend it would not start. I love the car just hate it when it does not start. I have heared so many stories that im not sure what to do know. Some say to replace the ingition, some say remove the remote start, some say some relays, keys etc just not sure what to do now.
