If you are the original owner and still under the 10yr/120Kmi powertrain warranty, the fuel pump is considered a powertrain component. Most dealers wont readily admit it, but the fuel pump and sending unit are considered one part. The sending unit is what is causing your erratic fuel gauge. If you have a good relationship with an isuzu dealership & a service history with them, your chances of this being a freebe are good. No history, this will be a hassle.

I've just replaced mine, I bought it off of eBay, this (http://cgi.ebay.com/98-99-00-01-02-RODEO-FUEL-SENDING-SENSOR-UNIT-NEW-OEM_W0QQitemZ170003523603QQihZ007QQcategoryZ42604Q QssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) is the exact same item I used on my 2000 Passport EX. You may have to swap out the connector pigtail that leads to the fuel pump for your old one, this is easily accomplished.

Dropping the tank is also easily done, make sure you have 1/4 tank or less.
-Start at the back of the vehicle and disconnect the large fuel filler hose, smaller vent line, and smaller yet other line.
-Then go up along the drivers side running board and look underneath. You'll see the fuel filter, disconnect the rubber line facing the back of the vehicle coming from the fuel filter, along with a rubber line next to the fuel filter facing inwards toward the middle of the vehicle.
-Support the tank with a floor jack.
-There are then 3 bolts and a nut, all 14mm I believe, one at each corner of the tank.
-You will be able to drop the tank almost the entire way to the ground before having to reach up and disconnect two electrical connectors, one handling the fuel pump / sending unit, the other on a pressure switch.
-You should then clean off the top of the tank around where the sending unit goes into the tank.
-Disconnect the two stiff black plastic lines going to the fuel pump, be careful to correctly release the disconnects, you should be able to accomplish this with only your fingers. (some oil on the pump nipples will aid in resealing the o-rings inside these connectors upon reassembly)
-Remove the large snap ring with either snap ring pliers or a pick.
-Pull out sending unit.
-Follow direction in kit.
-Reassemble (reverse of removal )

FWIW I found a "Best Offer" auction and offered him (awnicol25 (http://cgi6.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewSellersOtherItems&userid=awnicol25&completed=0&sort=3&since=-1)) $26.25 for the unit, he accepted. I did NOT need anything reprogrammed as some people claim to have.

Good Luck, and let us know what you decide :grinyes:.

-Phil
