Ram air

I am a new 91 Civic Si owner. Today I was playing around stock airbox-first I removed everything past the air filter(made a huge difference, and a sweet sound), then I was looking at the parts I had taken off I cut off about 10 inches of the part that goes along the radiator, cut off part of the rubber boot that goes into the airbox, and put them together. I fed the rubber boot side up through the inner fender and re-installed it in the airbox, at the other end I cut the inner fender where the other end came through and reattached it to the car. Now I have a little ram air scoop right under the front airdam and the car is a hell of a lot faster-and the best part is that it was all free! Has anyone else done this? If so how does it compare to a cold air intake?

i haven't done that myself. but i will say...be carefull when you cut up the inner fenders. part of my inner fender ripped. first time i drove it out in the rain, my intake sucked in a grip of water and my engine temporarly died. just something to keep in mind :)
