Yeah, I think there all the same, except the 3100 and 3800 3400 are vortec versions with dif heads of something
Same with the 5.0 litre became the 5000 vortec same with a 5.7 becamr a 5700 vortec
I think the difference is heads.

i always thought it was 3.1 liter or 3100 cc's (cubic centimeters, another measure of volume)

Young Chuck is correct. A 3.8 and a 3800 are the same thing, just a different way of saying it. For instance my motorcycle is a 1.3 Litre engine or also known as a 1300 cc. My Chevy is a 1.6L or a 1600cc. Or if you prefer, the car in my avatar is a 7.4L or 7400cc. Just depends on where you put the decimal.
Whether a car has a vortec engine makes no difference in engine size. Vortec is a configuration of the engine. 3.8 is the size of the engine. For instance a 426 Hemi is a 426 cubic inch engine with a Hemi configuration. One could have a 426 cubic inch engine and not have it be a Hemi. In my avatar, my car has a 440 Magnum. 440 cubic inch is the engine size and a 440 may or may not have a Magnum cam.
