Resetting the system

My fiancee changed my starter on my 97 Jetta last night, and when the battery gets disconnected, the system goes into 'safe mode' and the radio doesn't work. How do you reset the system? I can't find the instructions in my manuals.

press scan and mode and hold for 5sec. then enter the radio code

If you cant find the code just go to the dealer they will give you the code number and reset it for you.... also you can find the code under the ashtray or around the inside of the glove compartment
