Buying a 98 A4

I have found a 98 Audi A4 2.8L 5 spd with 125,00 miles on it that I am purchasing. I was wondering when you are suppose to change the timing belt on this car? How hard of a project is it to do??

I like to do the work on my cars and have alot of experience with car mechanical work. I have not owned an Audi before but really liked the car after I test drove it.

I have heard that you need to take audi's to a dealer for an oil change so they can reset the computer.... is this true on this particular model and year?

Thanks!

Hello. I was just checking out the automotive forums for the Audi because my nephew owns a 99 A-4 with the smaller of the engines(2.4 or 2.8? ). He is an Audi fanatic, and does not have much money to trick out his car as he would like. He has added some performance parts but the parts are so gosh-darned expensive. I think his parents bought him his car(used) and it had something like 36,00 miles on it or something--. Any-ways, the re-set the oil change thing caught my attention. My family owns/drives a 2002 Buick Century (grammy and grampa kinda car I know). We get the oil changes done at our local Jiffy-Lube. One time our "Change the oil light" came on even though the car was between 3,000 mile oil changes. The oil change guys at Jiffy-Lube were able to "RE-SET" the code so that our "change the oil light" went out!! I think they did something in the right order to get it to go out. It did not involve any kind of computer or anything. Something about turning something off and on several times or something along those lines... They were doing this as one of their technicians was driving the car out of the oil-change bay. I hope this helps you out somehow-- I kinda feel connected when it comes to saving money at the car dealers! Good Luck. dooski-

Hello- Dooski here. Try reading a previous post about the engine oil light thing. It was a post from '94-'01 Audi forums "RESETTING SERVICE LIGHT" by yellowbottle (04-11-2006) by S4fanatic27. Hope this is better information than I was able to give to you earlier! Again, Good Luck, --dooski.
